In which a dramatic conclusion is found

I stayed up all night Monday taking data. It was wild. I had a meeting to go to in Carlisle, which I was being picked up for at 7.45. I beat my ride to my house by 10 minutes, just enough to change my clothes and freshen up. So I took my phone and keys out of my pockets and threw my clothes in the washer. My ride arrived and as we walked out we chatted about going shopping after the meeting, and while she shopped 'til she dropped I planned to work on my data analysis. On the ride out, I got a call from my roommate about my whereabouts and mentioning she ran the wash.

Fast forward to the end of the meeting. Before I commit to going on the shopping adventure, I double-check I have my data. And I realize it's not in my pocket. It's not in my purse. It's not even in my backpack. I start to panic. The last place I remember it being was my pants pocket on my way home from the lab.

... Yes, the pants that my roommate washed. Because no way was I going to go shopping with someone else without my data there to work on after I was done, I left with the group coming back to SC. As we pulled out I could almost hear the dramatic voice-over:

Did Denise's USB drive go through the wash? Is a hard-won quarter-GB of data ruined? Will she ever do science again?

Well, I present to you the thrilling conclusion!

The drive did in fact go through the washer and dryer in my pants pocket (I left it in the pocket when I put the pants in, and my roommate actually ran the machine). It was dry when I pulled it out, and my data is intact. In fact, it works great! The only damage seems to be to the sticker I put on it to better tell it from my coworkers'. So should you accidentally wash yours, fear not! Just make sure it's thoroughly dry before plugging it into anything.

I eventually got some sleep, late last night. And I got to go shopping too, but at the local half-empty mall. I love the Hot Topic manager Neal. We had a great conversation and I am debating getting a jacket thats on clearance there. Also went to another store where I had seen a skirt earlier in the season and deemed it "likeable but not worth $40." Yesterday? On sale for $15! I did not like the sales clerk trying to sell me clothes for another occasion I mentioned, especially ones far from my style that I told her were not professional enough for said event.

I invented a drink, too: electro-limeade. Per pint glass: 1/4 tsp each "lite salt" (50/50 KCl/NaCl) and table salt. + juice of 2 limes (~3-4 Tbsp), + 1 Tbsp honey. Mix well, add more honey to taste. Drink, and feel better after a dehydrated, sweaty day.

food, adventure
