you're just as guilty as them

I'm almost through my first week of actual medical school. I had a week of orientation last week, getting my hospital badges, meeting the staff, learning the ins and outs. Official 'school' started at the beginning of this week. It's not too bad thus far, but it definitely is a lot to take in. The system here is nice, we have different lecturers come in each day depending the topic. Right now, our main class foci are ethics(primarily), epidemiology and genetics. The ethics lectures are really interesting, it really makes me think back to times of being a scribe and thinking about different situations the ED had dealt with over my time there. I guess things aren't as cut and dry as I thought they were. Learning from these MDs about their experiences and other things they deal with in the hospital has really started to open me up to think in a completely different way about medicine. I guess sometimes you really don't understand things until you're on the other side, and I'm starting to see that.

I really enjoy my classmates and medical school though. It is everything I could have hoped for and more. They are really up on technology, all of the students get brand new tablet PCs to take notes in, they automatically upload all our notes, textbooks, readings and class schedules on there for us. It makes things a lot easier and more accessible for class. The schedule is a bit rigorous, but I am much more disciplined toward it from working long hours often as a scribe. My typical schedule is 4 one-hour lectures from 8-12, lunch and then a couple lectures in the afternoon. We usually have small group ethical discussions in the morning which I enjoy. Working at Kissimmee gave me a lot of great examples to bring up in conversation and I think I am respected by our group leaders because of that. The administration really stresses for students to study hard, but play hard also. They are hosting a pub crawl for us tomorrow night after our first test. I am extremely happy here and surrounded by a LOT of really smart peers who come from very respectable schools
