What I have learned in the past 5 Years.

Mar 25, 2008 01:14

I've been wanting to do this entry for quite a long ass time, but now I really feel is the time to do this entry, as I really want to begin to sum up this era of my life, and use what my experiences to make the rest of my life better.

So here we are, What I have learned in the Past 5 Years. Just a warning, some of it is going to be quite controversial, and just to bring that point home, I'm going to put the content under a cut, so no one is caught with a backhand slap.

1) Apperance does matter.

2) Hygene matters more.

3) Poverty is not a virtue

4) It's not a crime to be ambitious. As long as it's for the betterment of one's situation.

5) Unless you go them for profit (business, or otherwise), geek fandom conventions (no matter the different type of fandom) are a very poor thing to base your life plans on.

6) Cosplay is NOT serious business.

7) Anger is not a healthy motivation.

8) Acting like the character you created on the Internet has repercussions, especially when you can't maintain it in real life.

9) Don't be the person in a group that everyone makes fun of, and no one really wants around. It's a self-esteem drainer.

10) Speaking of self-esteem. Low self-esteem is bad.

11) Taking accountability for the things you screwed up, is a good thing.

12) Taking accountability for EVERYTHING is a bad thing.

13) Reading is fundamental. Especially, when emotion cannot be conveyed.

14) Everyone has an opinion, and is entitled to it.

15) Being a GOOD Moderator on a forum is not easy. That is all

16) Conflict is sometimes unavoidable.

17) Physical Fitness is vital.

18) Balance and Moderation is a great concept for pretty much everything in life.

19) Holding yourself to higher standards is a good thing.

20) Holding others to impossible standards is not.

21) Regret needs to be quashed. It is dehabilitating.

22) The Internet is not a substitute for real life.

23) Never stop changing, learning, evolving. Otherwise, life gets boring.

24) Sometimes, blind faith is all we have.

25) Sometimes, you gotta be a dick. Cause if you're not, people will step all over you.

26) Rejection sucks, but everyone deals with it. So deal with it.

27) Ideals are something worth striving for. Escpecially, when it comes to your persona.

28) Like a videogame, those who stand still will die.

29) If you have a dream, you must never let it go till it comes true. Otherwise, it was never a true dream to begin with.

30) Always remain open minded, and see all sides of the story.

31) What you focus on, becomes reality.

32) Your subconscious is precious. You must cultivate it correctly.

33) Be careful what you wish for, you WILL get it.

34) No matter how bad the experience, there is ALMOST ALWAYS something that you can learn from
it.

35) Happily Ever After can exist. But like anything worth having, it takes work.

36) If something doesn't make you happy. You need to take a step away from it.

37) Drama: Don't surround yourself in it. Quash your own as quickly as it started, and just tell
it to fuck itself.

38) Form your own opinions, don't let anyone force you to think another way.

39) Normal is a code word for "loser"

40) Don't let the past control you.

41) Nice Guys (and girls) only finish last, because they can't be themselves.

42) Putting others over yourself ALL THE TIME, is not a virute.

43) If you like someone, and they're not attached, tell them how you feel. Better to know, than to wonder.

44) A woman's costume closet and bra size, are not the building blocks to a lasting, healthy relationship. Nor is a man's costume closet, or his dick size.

45) If someone chooses an asshole or bitch to lie with, then you really don't want them.

46) In the same breath, sometimes they choose the asshole/bitch, cause the nice person tries to be something that they're not, and gets beaten by experience.

47) Settling is the ultimate sin.

48) In all honesty, if you cannot be a friend to someone who jilted your advances, then do yourself and the person a favor. Stay away from them, till you can be a friend.

49) Don't be something that you're not, cause you'll be damn poor at it, and it'll show.

50) Be yourself, love yourself, trust yourself, believe in yourself. It's the ultimate secret weapon

And there you have it. 50 things I've learned in 5 years. It's been a ride thinking about all of this. But, it feels great to get it out there. First real entry in nearly 2 years.

To close this off, I'm going to leave you with this poignant quote. 100 Points to whoever gets the reference.

"Listen kid, love is the only chance of happiness that you're gonna get in this lifetime, and if you're gonna let a little thing like rejection stand in your way, then maybe, you might as well just stay right there on the ground, because people are gonna be walkin' all over you for the rest of your life."

Edited for 49 and 50.
