I prefer prose to poetry most of the time, but there is something so beautiful about a well-crafted poem. There isn't a better occasion to broaden reading horizons, since April is National Poetry Month. So, here are some short snippets of my favorite poems. Yes, they are all well-known, because I am not well-read when it comes to poetry (or anything else for that matter). Please indulge me by sharing some of your favorites! ♥
Resignation by Nikki Giovani
"I love you...
because only my love for you
despite the charms of gravity
keeps me from falling off this Earth
into another dimension"
Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley
"I met a traveller from an antique land"
Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost
"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold."
The Tyger by William Blake
"Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night"
Song by John Donne (Yet another reason I adore DWJ's Howl's Moving Castle)
"Go and catch a falling star,
Get with child a mandrake root,
Tell me where all past years are"
The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes
"Then look for me by moonlight,
Watch for me by moonlight,
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way."
In the desert by Stephen Crane
"Held his heart in his hands"
The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer
"It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing."
