It's something I've been noticing. Whenever someone brings up the kids of Luke, Han and Leia and some fans use characters from the SW EU, they always seem to focus on Jaina and Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker. Anakin Solo is not even mentioned.
Their reasoning is usually because it'll be confusing having two Anakins, that's the reason why he was killed off after all (actually, it wasn't...all Lucas said he didn't want Anakin Solo as the hero of the NJO, it was the Del Rey editors who put out the reason that it would be confusing with two Anakins. Another reason why I don't like Del Rey, they implied that was Lucas' reasoning until someone asked directly whether or not Lucas actually said that).
But you know, Anakin Solo has always been my favorite of the Solo kids. The way they put out his storyline in the Bantam books, I just loved it and it seems like the perfect storyline for the ST. Anakin Solo is training to be a Jedi, however, he worries over what happened to his grandfather. The Dark Empire comics might never have happened in the ST, but he always feels reminded of his grandfather's fate by his name and fears the same might happen to him, especially given how strong he is in the Force. As the ST progresses, Anakin Solo discovers what happened to his grandfather, faces evil, comes to terms with his own doubts and discovers what it truly means to be a Jedi.
With Ben, I think his storyline could easily be finding his own place, he feels overshadowed by his father. I think Jaina and Jacen could take Han's place in the movies, Jaina's the hot-shot pilot while Jacen tries to woo a princess! XD They might be more to their storyline, but I've been focusing on Anakin and Ben's.
I'm just so frustrated over Anakin Solo. How can a struggle over his grandfather's past not be a fantastic plotline for the ST? I think Anakin Solo has major potential. I just can't see why others can't see this? Why they allow the name to get in the way of a fantastic story?
