Someone made a list of all Star Wars EU books that include plot points from the NJO:
"KOTOR has Carth Onasi see one of the Vong ships or so he says.
Rogue Planet has Vergere, Zonama Sekot, and the Far Outsiders
Shatterpoint has Mace Windu having a vision of one of the events in the NJO.
Outbound Flight and Survivor's Quest have mentions of a mysterious threat that turned out to be the Vong.
The Marvel comics have one of the Vong weapons show up in the series.
Nom Anor in Crimson Empire."
And someone else suggested that the NJO is literally the backbone of the EU.
Dear goodness! I'm reminded of Star Trek's Borg race. "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." "Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
The NJO is the Borg. It tries to integrate itself into every fabric of the SW universe. Every single thread must connect back to the NJO series, even if it's just one thread. Apparently, only the movies escape the assimilation (although, I bet they have tried) because Lucas ignores the EU completely, unless it's something extremely minor (like a planet name or a background character he happens to like). He doesn't feel entitled to bow to the assimilation of his universe into Del Rey's universe.
Del Rey didn't write books. It created a storyline. They took SW and recreated it in their own image! Just... What in the world? Why? Why would anyone want to read a series that must infect itself into every single piece of material within that universe? I just don't get this! This is why I don't like the NJO at all. It literally infects every single thing it can get its hands on.
It's good thing I haven't picked up a single Del Rey book since 1999.
