Reports are saying J.J. Abrams will direct Episode 7. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I was hoping for Brad Bird (despite the fact that he wasn't going to do it... *sobs*), but really, I was unsure about who could direct this. At this point, outside of Lucas, Kershner and Marquand (which I have just found out that the last two are dead...Kershner in 2010! How come I did not know this???), I don't trust just anyone to do Star Wars.
I've never seen anything Abrams has done. I'm not a Star Trek fan, so I didn't see the 2009 movie. I never watched Lost because I heard some things I didn't like and figured it wasn't my type of show. That last part is what really worries me. I can't remember all that I heard, but I think character deaths might have been one. And that worries me.
There's one thing that really worries me and that's the possibility that Luke, Han and Leia might be killed in the new movies. I really don't want that to happen, not after spending over 10 years traumatized by Chewie's death. And this time I doubt there'll be a chance to reverse it, like with Chewie. :( I mean, Luke, Han and Leia are kinda my childhood heroes. I mean, okay, my Star Wars obsession happened during my middle/high school years, but still...Luke, Han and Leia are meant to be childhood heroes. I don't want to see childhood heroes die. :(
Timothy Zahn is my hero on this subject. He's the writer of the Thrawn Trilogy books and his opinion on this is "I like seeing characters fight against impossible odds and win the day" Yeah... :) That's what I love. He doesn't like death scenes. In fact, he rather the characters retire off camera and yield the state to the new generation of heroes!
"If I want realism and the deaths of people I care about, I can turn on the news." -Timothy Zahn
Don't we all, Mr. Zahn!
*sighs* I just hope Abrams is a good choice and that my favorite characters live on. :(
