Tonight, I found Live Journal again. I wandered SecondLife earlier -briefly-, and found it void of any meaningful contact (and generally empty). FaceBook is a bunch of game posts, funnies, some strangers, some family, some politics... but oddly doesn't really feel social. Probably because I don't want to express myself in any way that would... well... FaceBook is terrible about blabbing everything to everyone, no matter how many privacy settings you change. I found that some people I have been wondering how they are doing- you guys are still posting here. I've missed knowing what is going on with people. So. Now I want to make me some new icons etc for LJ.
And to be random: things I've been doing lately:
-MapleStory. Binged on this MMO for a couple of months while many in-world events goings on. Fun times with Crssa :)
-M:TG. Yes I nerd. Made some new friends at a local convention, and I have been sucked back into this old past time. Even been playing in some 'commander' tournaments. Fun times! (send me your old cards if you are thinking about how they're gathering dust >:D )
-SecondLife: Mesh. I perused SecondLife's newest offing of Mesh, and found the lack of compatibility across all viewers to render it of (unfortunately) little interest. If people can't see it, they will be disappoint when they buy it and can't show it off. This led me to:
-SecondLife: Open Sim. Whoa crap, why didn't I find this sooner. Gave up paid accts and land on SL some time ago as it started to slide. Now only make sales occasionally. And then I found... you can make your own offline sim for frees. You can also make it remotely accessible, and folk can come join you. I tinkered with something called 'HyperGrid' also, but was unable to get it perfected. Still nice to think: you can build, test for free, then export/import to SL pretty easily if you've got something to sell. If only SL weren't on the decline.
(skip if you dunn care but, to explain HyperGrid: if you connect to a world, wherever hosted, you have to have a login there. All your inventory and appearance are stored there along with that world and login. HyperGrid is a means by which you should be able to have a central login/inventory/appearance and go from world to world retaining it. This is an exciting concept because, while most people take a deluge of freebies for granted within SecondLife, once you have your own private, locally hosted sim, you realize how EMPTY it is. There are exportable files that are nice, but not too commonly available. The best/most I could find were from (

-Fixing laptops: Mostly done with this for now, but amazingly found a stack of ~27 discarded laptops (curbed by a local computer repair place at their residence). Tacky to pick up? Perhaps. But I couldn't pass it up. So far we've got running a Gateway dual core 2 gHz intel machine (2 gig of DDR2 ram). Made for vista (ugh), but luckily finally got enough drivers pulled together to give it XP. Also got an Asus working 2.5gHz (2gb DDR)- but its battery is shot (works fine while plugged in). Last I have a Toshiba with 3gb ddr2 waiting to find new life: had to wipe it as its Win7 install was beyond repair (I thought it was a hardware issue it was so bad). Its got XP now and works... but I really think it could be faster. I have PLENTY of serials for all kinds of windows installs now, but am waiting on an actual Win 7 install disc from a co-worker to test it. Wasn't as lucky with the drivers on that one, and the proper drivers are only available for Vista/Win7.
Anyone need some laptop parts? I may have what you need >.>
-Oblivion: I got an itch to play this once again after seeing everyone enjoying Skyrim. Since a great wonderful generous friend of ours gave us his 'old'(!) Core i5 HP laptop with 4gb ddr3, I figured (and rightly!) that the game would now offer no trouble. Also, as it has aged, TONS of user mods are available for it. Almost finished cruising through the Thieves Guild quest line as a Wild Tabaxi. And yes, I cheat for money- who has time to steal and sell EVERYTHING? Also who has time to play the 'face game' where you attempt to gain influence (aka make it so people don't treat you like garbage on sight). Bribing them is so much easier. Just trying to play it for fun, enjoyment, to experience all that the game has to show. Not necessarily looking for tedious challenge. I mainly explore and try not to get caught picking locks or taking things that no one was using (stealing).

Goodnight for now, people of LJ land :)
