Books (2/50):
1. Brain Droppings by George Carlin
Pure ingenious hilarity, of course. Some I recognized as some of my favorite stand up schticks of his. I highlighted lots :) I just started on his second book, Napalm and Silly Putty. Alyssa got me a huge book which is a collection of all 3 of his books. Fuckin' AWESOME. I recommend it to everyone with a twisted sense of humor, as well as everyone who'd be offended by it. 5/5
2. The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
I can't put this book down. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm almost done so I'm counting it as a January book. It breaks down scientifically, logically, and psychologically (with, of course, Dawkins's dry humor scattered throughout) the roots of religion, the evidence against it (particularly from the Darwin angle), and the cultural, mental, and evolutionary effects of it. I borrowed it from Sarah, I need to get my own copy so I can read it again and highlight the crap out of it. Definitely recommended. 5/5
Movies (4/50):
1. The Guardian
With Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. The Ashton Kutcher part threw me off at first, but it turned out to be a really good movie. Kevin Costner balanced it out. It's about life in the coast guard and emotional struggles and triumphing in the face of impossibility and a sad ending. I probably wouldn't see it again, but I liked it. 3.5/5
2. Jarhead
Another military movie, I expected to see a bunch of meatheads blowing stuff up, which I did, but it also brought some light into desert storm and the bullshit the gov't puts our troops through. Another surprisingly good movie I wasn't expecting to like as much as I did. This one I'd watch again. 4/5
3. The People Vs. Larry Flynt
The story of the beginnings, hectic life, brutal censorship, persecution and eventual end of Larry Flynt, the man behind Hustler magazine. Amazing movie despite the Courtney Love. She pretty much played herself, so it was fitting. Loved it. 5/5
4. Twelve Rounds
Terrible acting, unoriginal plot, overdone action scenes: just what I expected to see from a John Cena movie. I didn't see the first 1/4 of the movie, but no need. I did sit through to the end though, and I was expecting awesomely bad, so I was not let down. 2/5
