Summary: The GI Bill helps Danny plan for the future.
Notes: Canon and outtake as this takes place during the time jump between the last war chapter and the next chapter.

Danny walked into the house, and upon hearing Susan’s baby babbling called out to Sakura that he was home. He’d learned the hard way that yelling while the baby was asleep meant waking her up, and that lead to not only a cranky daughter but a cranky wife as well.
“Welcome home,” Sakura’s voice replied from the direction of the kitchen. “Dinner will be ready in a minute. Go wash up.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Danny did has he’d been told and then wandered into the kitchen. “It smells good,” he said as he planted a kiss on Susan’s head as she ate her dinner in her high chair.
“Spaghetti and meatballs. Dotty said it is a favorite.”
As they sat down to dinner, Danny talked about his day, much of which had been spent in the library doing research for his final papers. He was busy using the GI Bill to finish up his Bachelor’s degree in history, and he was at the point where he needed to decide what he wanted to do after graduation. Using the GI Bill had paid for his schooling in addition to a small allowance that he and Sakura could live on while he was in school. After he graduated it would also help with finding him a job, but before that he needed to decide what to do with his degree. After much discussion with his wife, Danny was fairly certain that he wanted to teach high school, but he still had his doubts. Sakura was doing her best to convince him that his plan was an excellent one.
“I think you will make a good teacher,” Sakura said.
“Really? I never liked many of my teachers.”
“Being a good teacher and being liked are not the same thing.”
“I know you’re right, but history and civics and stuff were always so boring.”
“Then you make it interesting. Perhaps, now that everyone sees how the world is connected they will be more interested in learning more about it.”
“You always know what to say, don’t you?”
Sakura just smiled at Danny. “You will also have summers off to spend with Susan and I, and the new baby that will be here by then.”
Danny smiled wide. “A new baby, huh? Summers off with my wife and kids does sound very tempting.”
