ten years' passing

Aug 29, 2015 23:17

I've been avoiding pretty much all mention of it in the media, in part because I truly needed to avoid a rage blackout, but I didn't want to let today go by without remembering Hurricane Katrina.

What I have been reading, instead of media reports, are posts and comments on FB and elsewhere from those who grew up in, lived and/or still live in, and love New Orleans, as they react to their own memories and others' as well. There are both tears and defiance there; there's courage and anger and bittersweet sorrow and triumph and determination and love.

That's a better way to acknowledge this day than anything else, I think.

Dear New Orleans --

I miss you, and I remember you, and I love you.

I'll come back. Soon.
