Later tonight I'll be doing some grant proposal writing and manuscript review, but right now I'm sitting in the drying chair at the nail shop waiting for my polish to dry. Pedicure, not manicure - I'm not sure I could type at any speed with wet fingernails. Sometimes it's the little things, truly.
I don't actually remember how long it's been since the last time I got a pedicure - when I need to budget more tightly for whatever reason (like having to pay for siding and foundation repair, just as a not-at-all random example), the very first thing I cut is anything that could be perceived as a luxury, and then go from there down the line to the minimal necessities for as long as it takes.
I realize, I do, just how very lucky and privileged I am that I can do things like this from time to time. I try to appreciate it fully when I do. I also very much appreciate the sense of relaxation that comes with this sort of self-indulgence, and that is something very valuable indeed.
Anyway, it just seemed like the right thing to do today, because I am seriously rocking today's fashion choices - everything fits perfectly, is comfortable, and is stylish. I even managed to curl my hair - which is an accomplishment of epic proportions, because my hair insists that its natural state is straight at all times.
And now, I have cobalt blue toenails.
Sometimes it's fun to be a girl.
