quick and random thoughts over lunch

Oct 25, 2012 11:50

It's actually fairly early to be taking lunch over here, but I looked at my calendar for the afternoon and realized that this was the best chance I was likely to have for several hours, so... lunch it is!

Fortunately I remembered to bring it with me to the office, as it is below freezing out there and snowing again. Hello, winter. Nice to see you, I think.

As those of you who follow me on Twitter already know, last night my power went out, about fifteen minutes after the snow started to fall. Tweeting at the local energy company got a quick response with actual detail, more than was available over the phone! Evidently there was a "pole fire" in the area, and they had to deal with that.

Honestly, the timing was fairly good, as these things go - I had just finished putting cider stew on the stove to simmer, and the gas wasn't affected, so it kept cooking while everything else was dark. I'd put in a load of laundry, but hadn't added detergent or water - and I hadn't yet gotten on the treadmill, either, although I was about to as soon as I finished the laundry. It meant I was in the basement when the lights went out, YIKES, but that's also where the emergency backup flashlight is, so it was fairly simple to find it in the black and then to light candles afterwards.

It was a strangely cozy evening, although I was really glad when the lights and the heat came back on around 9:30.

(The timing also meant that I missed last night's SPN, although from what I'm seeing on my reading list that may be no bad thing. I think I'll just wait and catch up next week.)

... although now, after spending half the evening in the dark watching trees bend in the wind outside on a cold and snowy night, I'm discovering that I have the beginnings of a cough and got poor enough sleep that I'm moving through the day in an exhausted haze.

Um. Okay then.

(All I'm saying is that if Slenderman comes after me, I'm going to do my best to punch him in his faceless face before he takes me anywhere.)

In other news, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Marvel's A-babies vs. X-babies one-shot yesterday, and I am STILL giggling whenever I think about it. They are SO ADORABLE, y'all, I can't even tell you. Tumblr has a bunch of pictures, should you be so inclined, and I am going to have to make a few myself simply so I can have icons of wee!Cap and wee!Black Widow and tiny!Hawkeye perching on the bars of his crib.

And, of course, Bucky Bear.

Just because. :)
