Hello everyone and welcome to the middle of October! 2012 is just flying by, isn't it?
This is the first year that DW has been my primary journaling platform, and as a result I have been slowly slipping away from reading on the LJ side of things. Occasionally this backfires, such as when I discover Yuletide signups are open solely due to the sheer volume of "Dear Yuletide" letters that appear on my reading list.
It looks like I have just under 2 weeks to decide if I'm signing up this year or not. I am sincerely torn, because I didn't last year and while that worked out, I would like to participate again and there are several things in the list that I am sure I could write, but at the same time, November and December promise to be fairly hideous in terms of other types of workload.
I just don't know. I really don't.
While I ponder that, have a few links for a Monday!
- Skydiver Felix Baumgartner broke the speed of sound. I can't even, y'all, I just can't. Twenty-four miles above the surface of this pale blue dot that we call home, a man jumped into the wild blue yonder -- and lived to tell an amazing tale.
- How to network at conferences. All of these are good strategies, but the one thing they don't address is how to overcome shyness or introvert tendencies or simple exhaustion in order to do them. Last time I was in the middle of AUGH over this kind of thing, it was
varadia who gave me the best suggestion I've ever received: Approach it like Pepper Potts would, with a dash of Tony Stark for attitude. I am here to tell you that this worked amazingly well, and I intend to continue doing so in the future.
- President Obama's productivity tactics. Here's another lesson I've taken to heart: if the President of the United States can find time to work out every morning and to sit down every evening with his family for dinner, there is no reason I cannot find the time to do the same. I love this article, and I find it both heartwarming and very inspirational, so I wanted to share it with you all.
That's it for now. Enjoy your days, everyone!
