Today's links all have a theme - SCIENCE!

  • SpaceX's Falcon 9 blasts off for the ISS. Welcome to the final frontier, by way of commercial spaceflight. Seriously, I'm excited about this - I've been keeping an eye on SpaceX news since 2002, and they've gone from proof-of-concept to success in practice. They also have a NASA contract to develop commercial space transport to bring people to the ISS, not just supplies, and they have plans for a Mars exploration program. Somehow, somewhere, Delos D. Harriman is delighted by this.

  • Skin cells turned into healthy heart muscle. Although it's at a very early stage, this bit of medical research news interests me because it involves cellular transformation from older patients's own skin cells into cardiac muscle cells. If it can be developed, it has the potential to not only provide a way to repair cardiac damage through new grown, but also to solve the problem of tissue rejection in transplant scenarios. In any case, it's something to keep track of.

  • Tony Stark and Bruce Banner: bonding through science. Spoilers for Avengers, obviously - but what I can say here is that this is a very interesting look and meta-discussion at the dynamic between Banner and Stark, and at some of the things underlying it.

On that note, I better get back to my own scientific work. Feel free to leave other links in comments!
