a moment for memetics

Jun 11, 2010 00:06

I'm not really here. In fact, I'm only partially here, rather like a ghost drifting from the latest dose of cold medicine back to the nearest surface upon which I can nap, once I can breathe again. However, while I wait for the aforementioned medicine to kick in, have a meme.

[ETA: Side note to agonistes: I don't think the quote below is a spoiler (or at least not much of one), but be warned this is a book you haven't read yet!]

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
6. Tag five people.

"'Thank you.' I accepted the bowl, my chains rattling as I reached for it. I took a deep sniff, miming pleasure, then smiled at him. 'It smells good.'

He beat a hasty retreat, avoiding my gaze. Stone and sea, what was wrong with these men?

Whatever it was, I didn't learn the answer that night."

--Naamah's Curse, by Jacqueline Carey.

Open to whoever wants to take it up next -- I've seen this all over the place, and can't for the life of me remember who's posted it and who hasn't by now.
