I know it's been pretty quiet around here lately, especially when it comes to posting. This is due to a few things, as follows:
* I had a
varadia and a
phoenixchilde! Well, for given values of, as I was the one who went traveling, immediately after the end of the semester. It was a lot of fun out there on the eastern side of the US with the both of them, not to mention the shared squee over the SPN finale. (More on that to come when I do the summer's meta rewatch.) In conclusion, brothers, and also I am lucky to have such great friends.
* Speaking of friends, I have a
cupenny and am about to have a
misslucyjane! The former got here a couple of days ago and the latter arrives this afternoon with
vivien529 for general wacky vacation/holiday hijinks and viewings of Piratical Movies-- which are very VERY good and everyone should see, no REALLY. Probably more on that later as well, once I find the time, due to item number three, which is...
* ...I have a job. :) Let me repeat -- I have a JOB. I am gainfully employed once again after what feels like an eternity, currently as an "intermittent" employee which means that I'm not supposed to work over 36 hours a week. Since I'm still in school and now working on the master's thesis, this is perfectly fine with me. (Also, given certain hints and questions about my interest and availability, it looks likely that in August I'll have a chance to go full-time in a new role, if I want it.) As for the job itself? It's going to be a GREAT opportunity to meet key people and to be involved in some really interesting projects with research teams both government and private all across the country, first as a project coordinator and then later (with degrees in hand) in a different role. I am extraordinarily pleased about this even if the building in which I work is haunted.
* No, I'm not actually kidding about that last. I work immediately above an abandoned floor in an old hospital, a floor that used to be a locked ward and is now dark and quiet and extremely creepy. When I mentioned this to the colleague who was telling me about the building she agreed and offered to show me around the ward in question. We didn't go far, because again, AUGH CREEPY, but she did tell me in the process that I should get used to the fact that I'll see flickers out of the corner of my eye and occasional shapes flashing past the door of the office, but not to worry about it because the ghosts are friendly enough. And no, she doesn't watch SPN.
But I'll be bringing a container of rock salt to the office. Just in case.
