I started writing that fiction piece. I even have a title. :) I got inspired by something on MW - I can't remember whose signature it was, but in one of the signature banners there was the quote "Mine is a heart of carnelian..." and I thought it was a lovely phrase. So I titled the piece Heart of Carnelian, which is also the name of the band featured. And I have a starting paragraph for another fiction piece but I can't really find a continuation, and I'm stuck. I need opinions as to whether this is a successful opening. Would this draw you in?
"Rebecanne had always been drawn to sunsets. She stood on top of the hill, watching the burning sky. The light was almost blinding her, but she smiled and sat on the smooth rock, curling her legs up underneath her. Her long auburn hair snaked down her back, softly entwining with her black shirt.
She glanced over her shoulder as she felt his presence approaching. She could feel him even before he sat down next to her. He looked at her, his cobalt-blue eyes gazing into hers, before calmly reaching into his pocket and pulling out a cigarette. His eyes echoed the shade of the rapidly-sinking sun as he lit it and inhaled the smoke."
That's my opening paragraph, but I need to know if it works so if anyone who reads this can comment and give their opinion I'd be so grateful.
I feel the urge to write a parody. AmIRight.com here I come!
