Strange how a song can just describe everything....

For some random reason, Misery has been playing in my head for the last fifteen minutes or so. Now I haven't heard it in a while, and I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere. It seems like my random mental jukebox just reaches into the massive musical archive that is my brain and pulls out the perfect song.

So I ordered the Wallflowers CD I'd been after for like, years the other day. It's one of their earlier ones - entitled Bringing Down The Horse - and it has One Headlight on it, a song that I've been completely in love with since I heard it back in August 1997 on the VMA pre-show spotlights, hosted by Hanson. I remember several songs from that spotlight that have proved to be important songs in my adolescence - namely 'Sleep to Dream' by Fiona Apple, 'One Headlight' by Wallflowers, 'You Were Meant For Me' by Jewel, 'Crash Into Me' by the Dave Matthews Band, and I know there are more but I can't think of them right now.

I've been considering making a compilation CD, a really personal, where-I-am-right-now sort of thing. The songs that describe my mindset, tying together my Pagan spirituality, my current happiness, my occasional bouts of low self-esteem and depression, my inspirations, my poetry, and everything else that I am and want to be, all on a single disk. I think this stemmed from an Amazon review I wrote for John Mayer's Room For Squares, where I described the album as an audio autobiography. I really want to make my mark through music. I want to write my own stuff, and review other people's musical poetry. I want to deepen my understanding of music as a whole. I want to accomplish so much and combine my two greatest abstract passions. I want to exist, damn it! Forgive this rant, but I am feeling somewhat intellectual and driven today. Maybe the sun has warmed the sawdust inside my skull. I may look on eBay for some new stuff actually. I do want a swinging incense burner. They have them on New Moon and I know they stock an affordable one at Raven, but I've just ordered more stuff from there. I'm still looking for a small African drum as well, but as yet the perfect one has eluded me. I've also been thinking about a set of panpipes. Not that I can play either of them but still, I love making music.
