Okay Anji this post is OFF LIMITS to you, until you receive my gift. I am holding you on the honor system here. Though, chances are, you probably won't check out LJ for weeks anyway and this will be a completely unnecessary warning. ~_~
I've been griping about my camera for a bit now, and how I'm making my gifts this year, one way or another. And then BAM. I forgot! I finished Anji's early because I wasn't sure if I could get a second gift in so I could have one for her birthday as well. Turns out, I'm barely going to squeak by with one gift per person, so that window sailed out the window. BUT! I took PICTURES.
It was something that happened rather, er, organically. I was working on drawing hands for the afternoon, because I still need so much practice, and I got bored. So, I started drawing faces, like usual, but I've been reading so many webcomics lately that I thought, haha, wouldn't it be funny to "comic" myself? So, I went into my file and started drawing Comic Athena. It was, haha, comic. And then I flipped the page, and started another one...except...I really started to dig it. I was looking to one side and I went looking for OTHER people who may be looking in the OTHER direction...and I found this great picture of Anji that I had. And so, I started drawing it nearby and by COMPLETE accident, the lines matched up. My neck was flowing into her face (this is not as weird as I'm making it sound) and her back sort of looked like it could almost be the same line of my arm. And the next thing I knew...I had Anji's gift. Comic Book Athena & Anji!
So, here you are. A sample of my artwork. I haven't drawn anything unrealistic in years, after I realized that you just can't draw really good comic/manga until you have a FANTASTIC grip on the real. Well, I don't have a fantastic grip, but it's fairly solid. So...wow. *stall stall* Sigh. Okay, my art:
This is the first "inking" if you will. I am a pencil girl, so it's just a softer lead, but it's what would be done with inking. I went back and erased my sketch lines after this. Some close ups on the faces:
And then the "final" draft, where I've filled in some color, added some lines, and though you can't see it so well in the pictures, added shading. I was not sure how much I wanted to put in. Too much and I'd start getting into the "real" category. And it's not like I can put it into photoshop and color it it. So, sadly...
And if you're curious, these are the two reference photos I used:
Wow. This is...a little embarassing. If you have negative comments...please keep them to yourself. I can't really alter much at this point, not on this particular picture, and really...I'm my own worst critic. There's no way you can say anything more constructive that my brain hasn't already scolded me with. T.T I'm still not at all pleased with some parts of it, and I had to ask Brian a thousand times "DOES THIS LOOK COOL?! Do I just THINK this looks cool and really it doesn't and she'll get it and be like WTF?"
As a bonus, since I wasn't expected to suddenly have an awesome(?) picture, the back was still filled with sketches. I added Comic Anji to it, and so it's like...the Adventures of Athena and Anji!
I'm thinking that if this is cool enough, maybe I'll think about making Milly one of Grand Whirlwind Chibiwee Adventures...
As you can probably guess, if you know me, this is something that has to do with the few things I'm okay at. That means you're probably either getting a drawing, a painting, a stuffed creature, or beaded things. That's how I roll at the moment. If you don't WANT any of those possible things, please let me KNOW. If I've already made your thing, maybe I can give it to someone else, and if I haven't yet, then I won't bother and it'll save me some TIME. Yay time. I swear, I will take no insult from THAT. =D
Okay. I'm going to go and...try not to freak out. Yay me.
