Somehow, When You Say "Thank You" It Sounds Like "Goodbye"

Aw. Now I want to watch "Hana Yori Dango." It's not a show with any great secrets of the human condition to impart, but it is good fun. You just can't help following the trials and tribulations of Tsukushi and Domyouji. Plus, I just adore Matsumoto Jun. He just does all the right things to make you like Domyouji, even when you still think he's an asshole. He's just so AWKWARD and CUTE at the same time. And Inoue Mao does a good job at making us both appreciate the strength of Tsukushi, and at the same time, the vulnerability of a girl in way over her head.

There is also something to be said for just the fast paced DRAMA DRAMA of it. Sometimes, that's just awful. But, there are only 9 episodes in the first season, and 11 in the second. So, you only have OH MY GOD DRAMA!!! for about the lenght of a normal American season. That's way easier to go with than 40+ episodes of intense drama. It's one of the reasons why the manga is a little bit more...mmm...I don't want to say "childish" because it's not really. It just feels like after awhile you start thinking, "Okay, seriously, whose life is like this? I mean, really. Even if you have the worst luck in the world, you still can't run into all these scenarios..." That being said, the author of Hana Yori Dango is also the author of one of my favorite series, "Cat Street." It's a great examination of trying to find yourself after you've lost your identity. And it's got a hint of the "Stop Your Pity Partying, And Get LIVING!" kick-you-in-your-pants that I just love.

In other news, I may have made a friend who also loves JDramas and Bollywood films! I joined about 9 Meet Up Groups, since volunteering hasn't worked in making friends, since I haven't gotten ANY of the long term projects I applied to. God, it's like looking for work. So, we're signed up to go to a dinner with other couples on the 2nd of July, and to go to a Japanese Language/Culture Enthusiasts meet-up on July 20th. I have volunteering on the 7th and 17th. Maybe we'll end up meeting and hanging out with this Sara Livernash person.

I'm also 134.8lbs again today. If I just keep it there for this week, I'll do fine. I'll be getting my exercise going to Nike today, and then later! We're going ice skating! Yay! There is a place near us that has a Friday and Saturday Night special, where it's $7 for entry and rental skates. It's from 7pm to 10pm (not that we'll stay that long, even at my best I'm not sure I could really handle skating for 3 hours...well, maybe at my best). So, we'll eat dinner first and then go. Maybe we'll even get lucky and meet a friend there! Meet Up feels a lot like the Friendship equivalent of Online Dating. I feel a little bit like....seriously? I'm doing Pen Pal Online Dating, Friendship Online Dating...what's next? I guess I've already done the whole Job Online Dating...
