You are the rock salt of the Earth

Christmas and the following days certainly did pass by quite quickly. I thought I'd be spending more of my time online updating but I found myself reading the latest Sholan Alliance novel and playing on my DS instead.

Christmas itself was fairly uneventful as another year was spent going out to breakfast, dropping off presents to friends and family, and having dinner at my grandmother's house. Unlike previous years it was decided that we would wait until after we got back from dinner to open the gifts. So like any good gaming geek I spent the night at dinner glued to my DS when I wasn't eating. Given the bootleg movie playing in the Blu-ray player, For Colored Girls, I found playing Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey to be much more appealing. Actually, I didn't care for what I saw of the movie, but I'm sure reading the play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf" might have been more enjoyable. I grew tired of playing my DS well before the movie ended. Thankfully after the movie was over we finally packed up and headed home. Thanks to the unusually cold weather I wasn't in the mood to do much but I managed to finally open presents and log into TBL chat for a few hours before going to bed.

The day after Christmas is where things got interesting. For days meteorologists had been unsure if a significant snow fall would hit the East Coast and the Philadelphia area. By Sunday the computer models were in agreement and as predicted a Nor'Easter struck. By Monday morning there was over a foot of snow on the ground and it was frustratingly reminiscent of last winter where the area was constantly hit by Nor'Easters. Fortunately the snow was light and powdery making it very easy to shovel on Monday morning.

Except for the driveway. Thanks to blowing snow major drifts formed and getting my mom's SUV freed from the driveway was a nightmare. We ended up paying a few guys to help us shovel snow. The moral of the story is to never park in an area prone to snow drifts if you can help it. The second moral would be to pay someone if the job is too much of a pain the ass to complete on your own. Thankfully I left my car around front where digging it out was much easier. I'd also taken the liberty of getting four new tires earlier in the month fearing I wouldn't make it through the winter with old and mismatched tires. I managed to get the tires just in time and they came in handy as I rarely found myself sliding in the snow. It was also relatively easy to free my car from the snow drift.

Driving wasn't too bad since the snow fell on Sunday and the major roads were plowed, save for the blowing snow caused by the high winds. By the time I got to UPS on Monday night I found the parking lot to be less than half full. As expected it doesn't take much for people to find a reason not to come into work, especially over a holiday weekend. We were less than half staffed but I was done by a reasonable hour. At least this week will be a short week as the New Year's Holiday break is quickly approaching.

Now off to work on a little more of this Persona PSP review for Damage Control before going to bed.
