Vincent watched silently as Sephiroth paced back and forth, the silver-haired man almost radiating barely-controlled fury. Then Vincent turned his attention to the distraught Tifa, whom Yuffie was awkwardly trying to comfort. "What exactly happened, Miss Kisaragi?" he asked quietly.

The ninja girl jumped at Vincent's voice, looking relieved when she saw him. "Cloud was muttering by himself in a corner like he's been since he heard about Zack. Then a few minutes after the others went to get supplies, he suddenly screamed and tried to attack Sephiroth, and when Tifa tried to stop him, he-he hit her. Then he continued trying to attack Sephiroth, but I think he was trying to get to Zack. He was screaming something about 'You should be dead' and 'It's my turn', until Sephiroth kicked him outside. He hit a tree and fell down, then when he got up, he screamed something about 'going to Mother' and vanished in a flash of light."

A choked sound from Sephiroth drew everyone's attention, and they saw the pale man had turned even paler, eyes wide and horrified as he stared at Yuffie.

Vincent sighed softly. "Then it would seem Jenova has found a new puppet to serve her," he said quietly. "But how did she gain a foothold? I thought Cloud was stable-"

"He wasn't," Tifa interrupted quietly. "He...when Barret and I found him, he was delirious...he believed he had led Zack's life. He..." She trailed off into quiet sobs. A moment later, she jumped as she felt a gloved hand touch hers and she looked up to see Sephiroth on one knee before her with a solemn expression.

"He is not completely lost yet, Miss Lockheart," the former general said quietly. "He held back when he struck you, and at the last second he turned his blade to hit you with the flat side. There is still a chance of reaching him, and I swear by everything I hold dear that we will bring him safely back to you."

Tifa stared at him in shock for a long moment, then slowly smiled. "Thank you, Sephiroth."
