What is it with today? What is it? Today is weird.
Today I made it to class on time, despite waking up late, and still having to pack to stay at James'. The weather is in the 60s, sunny and gorgeous. Yesterday, it was in the 40s and raining heavily. Everyone was shivering in their rainboots. Today everyone's excited. The first thing out of everyone's mouth is about the weather.
Prof Winkler started out class by inviting us to hang out with him on Thursday before Spring Break. I might be able to go, it's just a random meet-up at Starbucks on campus.
But as I sat in class, and he was once again just reading aloud and going on his own personal tangents, I suddenly thought, "Why do I hate this? Why is this so terrible?" I looked through the syllabus (all nine pages of it) and realized that this was, literally, the class. The best way to get an A in the class was to show up on time and make a smart comment every once in a while. It's attendance, and two tests.
After class, I went to sit in front of the library and eat my lunch. A guy from my Roman Empire class walked up to me as I looked around for a place to sit, and asked if we could talk. I had no idea what he wanted to talk to me about, but I said sure.
As I ate through a pulled pork sandwich and a very noisy apple, I still have no idea why he wanted to talk. I learned that he's going to do an internship at a museum in Quantico. I'm willing to bet that he's a former career Marine. He thought that I had done a good job reading a poem aloud in the original Latin.
ANIMULA VAGULA, BLANDULA,
HOSPES COMESQUE CORPORIS,
QUAE NUNC ABIDIS IN LOCA
PALLIDULA, RIGIDA, NUDULA,
NEC UT SOLES DABES IOCOS
And then when I sat down to process books, some woman who had managed to walk by me dozens of times without saying a word suddenly stopped and said hi. Then complimented my hair. We ended up talking about hair for like ten minutes.
I have this rule, this "shy girl" rule, that if someone talks to me, I respond. I suck at starting conversations, but I'm happy to be involved in one. Why were so many people randomly talking to me today? Was it the weather?
