Some conversations:

When withdrawing from history class, I had sent the professor a message:

Dear Professor [nomen]:

Within the last two weeks, several personal issues have come up, and between that, and working full-time, I found I was unable to keep up with the course material, and so I've had to withdraw from the course. I found it very interesting, it's helped fill in a lot of gaps in my own independent research. I hope that maybe next semester or so I will be able to take the course and keep up with the material.

Thank you very much,

Kelsey [nomen]

Yesterday I received a reply:

Dear Kelsey,

Darn, that is hard news. I sensed you were falling behind but did appreciate
the questions and insights you brought to the table. Usually I teach the 101
course and I don't know if that is to your liking, but I would be happy to
have you make a go at either one of them at a more propitious future time.

All very best,
[nomen]

So yeah. That's that, I guess.

Also, I finally sent a reply to my third cousin on Gladys Handke's side. The correspondence:

[Note: this was written in 2004]

I am looking for a Charles Henry Bingham-born in Iowa or Missouri around 1873-1875. Married Martha Handke in 1907 in Sheridan Wyoming. He disappeared June 2, 1915 when my grandmother was only a year old. He worked at the railroad and joined the moose lodge in 1912. Parents from Missouri. This is all I know of him. My grandmother's b-day is approaching, she'll be 90 and is still of sound mind and desperately wants to learn about her father. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I replied last week:

This is insanely old, but what the heck.

I'm the biological great-great-grandchild of Emil Handke, Martha's young brother. My evidence shows that Martha was widowed by the 1920 census, and she and her daughters were living with Emil Handke in 1920.

Hope this helps! Please contact me, I'm trying to find out more about that side of the family.

To my surprise, she actually responsed by the very next day.

I have lots of info and pics of the handke family though not much of christian,s parents except their names. Let me what you have...I have scanned documents of herman and Bertha's wedding cert, pics, copy of Herman's natralization papers, etc. Excuse any typos, just hand hand surgery and it is in a cast..makes it difficult.LOL. Do you have a ny info on Christian's parents. I only have one photo of Christian when he was young and in the service..How exciting to trade info, I love genealogy!

And yesterday, I FINALLY replied to her, playing the old I-just-moved card.

Hey there! Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I'm in the middle of moving apartments.

Actually, I'm not sure how much help I can be. I just started the genealogy thing, after I found out my grandmother's birth mother's name (Gladys Handke). I don't know who Christian is. I live near Washington, DC, so I have access to the National Archives, census records (federal and state), military records, land grants, etc. I would love to have copies of what you have.

Hope we can still exchange information, though!

So.......fingers crossed I guess.

Wow that many points in the ellipse was completely unnecessary. I have no regrets.

Internet Dude: I approve your message of Fish Face Punching.
Kelsey: Thank you sir
Internet Dude: I'd do a Grouper. Wouldn't change much.
One of those big ones.
Kelsey: Well for premium face-punching you're going to have to go right to the source and punch a koi fish
Internet Dude: Oooh

Internet Dude: Yess.

Internet Dude: Woah.
I'd wanna punch it in the face, but I don't wanna give it brain damage.

I actually have no idea who I was talking to. He's the friend of a guy I spoke to briefly on okcupid back when I was looking for a boyfriend. Said friend linked me to that random internet dude, saying that we have a lot in common or something. I actually don't even remember that friend's name. INTERNET HOMIES.

And last, James' new toads, Abbot and Costello.
