"Preposterous!"

Have you heard?

Of what?

The latest news!

No, I have not.

It's everywhere! The latest in anything worth knowing!

What? What of it?

It 'twas announced just this morn!

Speak, then, speak and let it be known to me!

Have you really no idea?

No-do tell!

The marriage contract between Orb's representative and PLANT's own ZAFT ace!

The marriage contract?

The marriage contract! Have you not heard?

...No, I have not heard.

What? Why do you cough so? But friend, where have you been? It's all over the news!

Really, now?

Yes! Who'd have thought? Orb's leader and a figurehead of the PLANTs!

Is it that much of buzz?

Yes, of course! No one had seen it coming! It's nearly like putting a dog and cat together! It just doesn't work!

True, true.

A Natural and Coordinator marriage is doomed from the beginning. There's no denying it; what were they thinking when the governments agreed to this plan?

Mayhaps the question is "What were they on when they agreed to the plan?" rather.

Ah, yes indeed.

Perchance...what gain would come of it?

Gain? Gain? That's the whole point: there is no gain!

None?

No, none whatsoever. Well, I suppose having strong ties between the governments, more support for the intermixing of "the two races," and whatnot, but other than that, there is none!

Then why the contract?

Love, they say.

Love? Between a Natural and Coordinator of such statuses?

As they say. Apparently they met during the war, on opposite sides, of course.

And fell in love?

So go the capricious rumors.

Interesting, very interesting.

There was no way to refute it; during the conference after the announcement, they kissed in plain sight!

Gasp! No! They would dare so something so audacious?

Yes, gasp! They have it all in full footage!

Amazing.

I give them six months.

Six months? I shall give them a fortnight! There's no way either on or off this earth that something of this sort will stand with the general public.

But that's another thing!

What?

They also say there are many advocates for this relationship, and not just within the populace.

Really? How so?

The members of the soon-to-be union are well-known, well-loved political figures! Allegedly their many contacts have more influence than they let on.

And thus more support.

I suppose that's how it works.

Who'd have thought.

Truly. Yet I assume something like this would have occurred eventually.

But concerning such high officials? That is disagreeable.

Maybe it would be better this way.

Continue, please.

What think you of two common persons, a Natural and Coordinator, who want to be married?

It's still strange, to say the least.

Understandable, and it would also create a controversy. However, there's no law yet depriving them of their union and could, with all possibilities, be married.

And your point is...?

It's not just a random person at the store who wants to be married-It's Cagalli Yula Athha, the Lioness of Orb! The princess who flew out into the battlefield and with her own hands defended her own people!

And Athrun Zala, the Red Knight of many allegiances, whose personal vendettas changed the outcome of the war (perhaps for the better) and was a war hero twice.

Precisely! A regular couple would generate an ample amount of attention, but consider what a pairing of the two aforementioned individuals could produce!

Yes...

Think! If this marriage lasted, would that not push the two races together and prove that they aren't as different as they seem?

Yes, of course.

I doubt if that's what they originally had in mind, but do you see what I speak of?

Affirmative. But the question now is, "Would it be for the better?"

Who can gaze into the moon and tell of the future? I'm not entirely sure if I support or oppose this couple.

Oh? That contradicts what you said earlier.

Perhaps. But what can come of it?

Turmoil, chaos, distraction, inevitable antagonism, hostility-

Yes, yes, I know. Nevertheless, what if some benefit befell the world because of this?

How so?

More communication between the Naturals and Coordinators, more open collaboration involving the two: less wars.

I think this world’s seen enough conflict and combat to satisfy those warmongers.

Are you so sure? No one could fully comprehend the minds of Patrick Zala or Djibil.

Hmmm.

What will result from this...incident?

Who knows? Only patience will lend us an answer.

o.o.o.o.o

AN: This has to be the most random fanfic I have written thus far. Originally it was supposed to be partly humorous with over-exaggerations and many gasps and whatnot, but in the end, it lacked many of those things and I kept it out of the humor genre. I suppose I'm partly to blame, since I have no sense of humor whatsoever, but I think it'll be alright. I don't plan for this one to be a big hit or anything, I just had to write something like this to express what I think the rest of the Gundam world would think of AsuCaga. It's not the best I've done, so I might come back and revise it, but I doubt it.

Hopefully as you read you realized it was a conversation between two people. I am also very much aware that the above literary piece has no quotation marks, despite it being a dialogue. I credit that error to the fact that I wanted it to flow smoothly, as if two persons were actually speaking aloud, and also to the fact that I like to mess around with grammar and such. Hey, don't look at me like that! Kaye Gibbons did the same thing in Ellen Foster!

I rest my case.
