MONDAY: Got into town and met up with Chad Wilcox for dinner at an amazing thai place in Arlington. Usually I have problems with thai food not being spicy enough for me, but this place was awesome. Kirk did get a chili pepper up his nose, though. Then we went downtown to see the night life, hitting a beer place and a trendy cuban place. Also saw a building burning down.
TUESDAY: Started the day at the National Building Museum - which was amazing! They had an exhibit on sustainable building/living and another on urban sprawl/responsible planning. Both of these topics have become more and more important to me recently. It really challenges me to try to think of ways to be more responsible.
Next hit Cascades Cafe (in the tunnel between the National Gallery and Modern Art Building) which is overpriced, but I must go there every visit to DC. Checked out the modern art.
Headed over to the Museum of American History because as Kirk put it, "It looks like a middle school exploded in here" so we didn't stick around too long. Rounded out the day at the quieter locations of the Feer and Sackler Buildings. Once being kicked out of the museums we met up with Chad in Georgetown at a pizza place where the service was terrible, but we ended up with a free drink out of it. Then met up with a bunch of his friends for more drinks.
WEDNESDAY: left Chad's spare room behind and checked in early at a bed and breakfast in DV proper. Manged to fit in our Chipolte fix (there aren't any in Rochester!) Despite being told by several people to drive to the National Cathedral, we walked. It was very beautiful and the organ demonstration was nice.
Walked back to meet up with Seth Wilson, and chilled out at a tea place. Walked the embassy row and got pictures of the Kenyan embassy. Walked to the waterfront for drinks. Walked back to one of the bars Seth works at for drinks. Met Ryan and Marcy Compton for a late dinner at a greek place.
THURSDAY: Visited both Union Station and the Postal Museum. The Postal Museum is surprisingly interesting, however it has too many exhibits. I can only care about mail for so long before becoming bored. Walked around in search of a Five Guys burger place Chad had recommended and then learned that a large order of fries is too big to share between too people. Checked out the US Botanic Garden for bit.
Next we headed to the Library of Congress. The library is my favorite government building in DC and they have some pretty cool things on display.
By this point we were exhausted with touristy things so headed out for sushi in Bethesda with Samantha, followed by Ben and Jerry's (which she had never had). Headed back in to DC to meet at Seth's other bar for drinks.
All-in-all it was great trip. We squeezed alot of things in, which was good because Kirk had never really been to DC before, except when we flew in at Christmas and went on a White House tour and up the Washington Monument.
