I've never understood this

9:23 PM 3/11/08 · Periodically, depending on usage, I capitalize the "G" when I refer to deities in multiples. As a general rule, Christians see God in plural with a capital 1st letter and they go berserk...

...I don't get why.

Whether or not the religion is still active, at some point or other the gods they worshipped were a big deal and odds are pretty good that, language notwithstanding, they capitalized whatever word they referred to them as. Christianity, the less than understanding current biggie on the morality box, is really big with there are no other Gods than theirs and that when others are mentioned it/them shouldn't be referred to in that manner.

Yet "God" isn't a proper name. An interesting variant on a mystical belief of names having power, God is generally not referred to by name but by title. The Christians have God listed as Jehovah, the Jews have It as Yaweh, and I don't know what the Muslims use; "Allah" as it happens literally means "God" and isn't a name.

It doesn't make sense.

Why is referring to other Gods...well like that, bad?

capital letters, gods
