This morning a squirrel told me off for getting--or rather looking for--strawberries in my own strawberry patch. My main garden is done! I snuck off work early yesterrday afterrnoon, picked up the veggies to be planted and then spent the early evening with my fingers in the dirt.  We have leeks, rasberry spinach, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, swiss chard, scarlet runner beans, strawberries and sunflowers.  I love my CSA! Not only do we get fresh veggies, we're also getting fresh fruit. This week we received grapes and apples in our box. Last week it was pears and cantaloup. In June it was strawberries. All very yummy.

My sunflowers are attracting lots of bumble bees and other pollinating insects. They are also providing gourmet dining for our local goldfinch. I've told him to look out for the cats. Although the cats would have a hard time getting at him perched on top of the six-to-eight foot stems! I've also provided the same warning to our local woodpecker, ( Read more... )

Our suspicions have been confirmed. The black and white striped gremlin was just spotted in our yard... along with the cat. Of course, at the sight of us the skunk took off. So did Taz... after the skunk.  Fortunately we managed to call her back before any olfactory harm was done ( Read more... )

For the last week or so we've had garden gremlins. One morning a couple of plant pots were knocked over.
