Oh, I'm sick of the wind.
But I learned something new that may help me lessen my hatred and learn to have more love and appreciation for the wind.
Apparently studies have been conducted that show plants grown in greenhouses produce more fruit when they are shaken. I think the study specifically involved tomatoes. So, the wind shaking the plants outdoors is theoretically good for them. Even if it's not good for my overly sensitive disposition, always being in overdrive.
(But still, I blame global warming for this crazy wind that we have seemingly all the time now).
I really like the line graphs they have on
intellicast. Because under the hourly forecast section you can see not only the temperature changes hour by hour but the wind chill, heat index, UV index, dew point, relative humidity, precipitation, snow, clouds, visibility, and wind. Pretty neat.
I have this sort of mini altar thing I've set up on my window sill.
On my metal curtain tieback thing I've been keeping a wooden rosary and the two catholic bracelets Barrett blessed for me when I'm not wearing them. On the window sill I have my Thoth tarot deck and I periodically set up different cards to meditate on/think about that I deem appropriate for whatever is going on in my life, I want etc. I also have two photos, a mirror, a playing card, some string, a green plastic jesus thingy, a barrette one of my aunts in India gave to me, a lapis lazuli ring, and a union pin my dad gave me from his work. When I woke up this morning I noticed that the jesus, my dad's pin, and my photos had fallen and moved to weird places. I guess it was the wind but I thought it was strange that they didn't just fall over but actually moved to a different spot entirely. I also thought it was strange the wind could do that with my double paned glass windows. All the tarot cards were in the same place, also weird since I would think they would be more light and likely to fall over than heavier pieces of plastic. I don't know.
I know fall just started, but I've been working on making a Winter playlist. I still need more songs.
So far I have:
Wintertime Love - The Doors
Going to Kirby Singston - The Mountain Goats
A Hazy Shade of Winter - Simon and Garfunkel
I Think It's Beautiful That You are 256 Colors Too - Black Moth Super Rainbow (one of my new favorite songs).
White Winter Hymnal - Fleet Foxes
California Dreamin' - The Mamas and the Papas
Winter Wooskie - Belle and Sebastian
Jugband Blues - Pink Floyd
Winter - Tori Amos
Magnetic North - Coil
A White Rainbow - Coil (both from their Winter Solstice LP).
I'm open to more song suggestions that involve winteresqueness even if they are from some of the same artists already listed.
I went to Annie's Annuals yesterday with Chris E.
We bought lots of lovelies:
Nepete Tuberosa A cat mint I'd never heard of. It looks quite different from cataria or racemosa.
Artemisia Californica "California Sagebrush"
Achillea millefolium var. rubra Rosy Red "Yarrow"
Ratibada columnifera var. pulcherrima "Mexican Hat" The plant doesn't look so great, but it's already bloomed and I never have luck germinating it.
Datura Wrightii "Sacred Datura" I got one to germinate but I think one of the heat waves killed it.
Lavandula stoechas "Lutsko's Dwarf" (Lavender, French I think)
Lupinus succulentus "Arroyo Lupine" A ton of the seeds I planted germinated and got nice leaves and some even started to flower but I think nearly all of them have disappeared now.
Lupinus chamissonis "Silver Bush Lupine" I wanted to get this beautiful golden Lupine but they were all so small I didn't trust that they wouldn't die on me.
Eschscholzia californica "Alba" (white) and "Apricot Chiffon" a cool variegated, layered peach one. I want to put all the poppies and lupines together. I think the purple white and apricot will look awesome together.
Three strange succulents and one not so strange: Orostachys iwarenge "Dunce's Cap," Puya venusta, Puya berteroniana "Blue Puya," and I think the other one is just a dudleya or something, pale green with deep red lining on the outer rim.
And finally two native grasses: Muhlenbergia rigens "California Deer Grass" and Festuca Californica "California Fescue."
Poppies and Lupines:
The Strange and Beautiful Puyas:
venustas
berteronianas
I was supposed to be trying to make salves and butters and lip balms and bath soaks today. I still may. I just don't feel like cleaning the kitchen and I wish Meghan would come over to help me.
I'm also supposed to meet Jovan for dinner.
Maybe after some downtime and food Meg will come over and help me.
Otherwise I guess I'll just try to do some boring inventory work from home and/or work on collage sheets to get paid.
Now that I have some money I should order more glass roll on tubes, essential oils, and deodorant tubes.
