Around 4:45 am Caity woke me up making a disturbing stressed yelping groan sound. Her body was tensed and convulsing with her head curled to the right. She was unable to move in response to me. Her eyes were wide open and seemed unfocused. She lost control of her bowels and her spittle dribbled from her mouth slightly foamed. What ever was happening lasted only a couple of minutes, but of course seemed to last forever to me.
After it finished she didn’t appear to have any balance issues and was very excited jumping on me giving kisses. I gave Caity a bath. After her bath she was very frisky, following me all over the house prancing at my heels, wrestling with her ball, and trying to curl up into a pile of clothes I have on the couch.
It looked very much like a seizure. I feel confident saying it would be the first one she’s had while living with me. She’s never alone for more than a couple of hours so i would have either seen it or noticed the mess to be cleaned up. Unfortunately, I have no idea about if it may have happened in her first 7 years with her original owners.
I have friends who have a dog who has frequent seizures often enough to require medication. I saw one once and it was much less dramatic without the vocalizations and expelled bowels. Maybe he was just used to what was happening so he wasn’t as stressed about it.
She seems much better, but I’m very, very worried. Has anyone experienced anything that sounded similar with your dogs?
