Wow. It’s been, what, 9 or 10 months since the last time I wrote in this blog? Sheesh. That’s … a little crazy.
My main reason for not posting is that I just haven’t been using my computer much. And when I am on it, it’s been to do something specific and I try to stop using it as quickly as possible or I suddenly look up and I've been on the computer for hours and hours and bedtime was hours ago. Smart phones have helped with not having to be at my computer to check my feeds without being quite the timesuck that my computer is but I don’t like typing long posts on them.
If you want to hear from me more often, I've been on Facebook a lot. Between the smart phone and much of my family suddenly showing up there, it’s become much more of a thing for me. I don’t know for how long though. It wants to put an update on my phone that I’m holding off on because I didn’t like the look of the new permissions it wanted. I should check that again.
I've also got a
Tumblr and a
Twitter that I've been trying to cross-post things to. Also,
this feed is awesome.
General update on the State of the Me: Good.
I am still in the same job I got last year at Beckman Coulter. They renewed my contract until January 2014. It may or may not last that long, though. Just a couple of weeks ago my supervisor said that it looked like our project would be done in by October 31st (but still recommended I take this internal training that takes me out of the lab for two days). Then this past Friday he said he saw a project coming down the pipeline that he'd probably get and would be requesting me and my co-contractor for. So who knows really. I’ve been working on my resume (my supervisor has been actively encouraging this and even helped a little). I may as well start early. I've even submitted for an internal posting that is essentially the job I've been doing but just a slightly higher level. We'll see how that goes!
I know they don’t want to lose me but I’d really like to have even the false sense of security a non-contract position gives. It’s too bad really. I like this job quite a bit. About the only thing I’d change is where it is. I have to drive 25 miles to and from work each day and that adds up to a bit in mileage and gas.
I’m shopping around to buy a house. I've got a short sale going right now that's barely moving. We're still looking around but the market hasn't been doing much lately. We'll see how that goes too! The job stuff makes me a little leery, but I don't know. I feel pretty confident things will work out one way or another, but I'm definitely keeping in mind that other things might get in the way. I could always try again in a year.
The cats are doing well, mostly. Mac is a crazy cat who likes to do bad things to his knees (I swear, if he could talk every knee injury would have been preceded by “Watch this!”). The latest knee thing got the doctor to ask me again to try scheduled feedings to help him lose weight and weight control wet food that would also work with Troians history of urinary crystals. I tried it and oh my god it was awful. They started fighting with each other and with me and it was just ... all kinds of awful. So not doing that again. They both lost weight though I don't think Mac lost quite enough to make it at all worth it. I'll just work on keeping him moving and trying to manage things that way. He's got some glucosamine chews to help with any joint issues too. At his last check (last week) the vet said his knees seemed good, so I've been trying to get him to play a bit.
Also at this checkup last week, Troian got a dental cleaning that will be most likely be his last; he was slow coming out of anesthesia, though his vitals were good throughout, so the vet thinks we probably shouldn't chance it again. He is 12 years old, just about, and his teeth are good. I shall probably start giving him dental chews or something (I tried cleaning his teeth myself and he wasn't having any of it).
Other than that, the vet said they both looked really good. So yay!
Well, I think that's enough for now. I'll try to post more often! Even if it's just a quick one from the phone or something. :)
