urie_valdez Shane never got why Brendon loved elephants so much.
After all what was so special about them in the first place? They were big, they were smelly, they were wrinkly, and they can kill you without even meaning to (the poor man suffocated by its crap for example)! Brendon’s obsession with them freaked him out especially since he kept a pile of elephant stuffed animals in the corner in their bedroom. It was especially awkward when they had sex (to many freaky eyes).
So it really was a wonder to Shane of how Brendon convinced him to take him to the zoo during elephant week in honor of Elephant Appreciation Day (fucking god the freaky things even had their own holiday). Shane though did have to admit he loved the way Brendon was jumping up and down in the passenger seat with a huge grin on his face.
“Oh Shane I’m so excited!”
“I can tell.” He grunted.
Brendon never did say he had to pretend to be happy about going to this celebration.
“Well I know it’s a huge party for the elephants but I really want to see the kangaroos!”
“But I thought you loved the elephants?” Shane asked mocking surprising.
“I do!” Brendon yelled dragging out the ‘o’ smiling even wider then before. “But I miss kangaroos since we went to Australia.”
“Hm,” He hummed before letting out a groan. “You can’t be serious!”
“What did I tell you Shane!” his boyfriend immediately started to nag. “I told you leaving the house by six still wasn’t early enough! Now we’re going to get none of the special elephant cups that are free!”
“Calm down Bren I bet they have enough for everyone.” Shane sighed he really didn’t want to put up with Brendon whining at six-thirty in the morning.
“I know that! But I know those bratty kids are going to take more then two,” Brendon huffed rolling his eyes. “Which by the way is the limit and it even says so on the coupons.”
Shane nods his head as he stares off into space and he feels as if he’s allowed to because there is no way this line is going to move any time soon. He could somewhat hear Brendon complaining in the background about bratty kids that have sticky hands and somehow always touch him with them. This was going to be a very long day.

Shane felt a rare smile fighting its way to his lips which would be (if it made it through) the first real smile of the whole day, but his excuse was he just couldn’t help it. After all it was a pretty rare sight to see Brendon leaning over the railing (even though it was against the rules as he said) calling out animal sounds to whatever animal he was looking at.
“Come on Bren stop messing with the owls.”
“But Shane,” he whined dragging out the ‘e’ pouting. “The owls like it!”
“Yeah sure they do.”
“They do! I speak owl Shane!” Brendon grinned again. “Hoot, hoot, hoot!”
“What happened to the elephants?” Shane asked biting his lip.
His boyfriend was just too adorable sometimes.
“I almost forgot about the cups!” he yells grabbing Shane’s hand and running towards the giant Africa sign.
Shane can barely catch up to his even more hyper then before boyfriend and he’s just making matters worse from trying to dodge people but ending up tripping on his own feet making Shane having to quickly react before Brendon can land on the floor face first. Thankfully they finally get to the elephants to see kids running around squealing and chasing each other with elephant hats on their heads and balloon elephants in their hands.
It’s a nightmare for Shane just a huge freaky nightmare.
“They have hats!”
While for Brendon it’s the complete opposite probably being a dream come true.
Before Shane can even blink there’s a pile of elephant related objects such as hats, shirts, bags, stuffed animals, and the cups. Shane can’t forget the cups.
“Mine is the blue one.” Brendon grins taking a sip out of it.
“How come I got pink?” Shane asked looking at it in disgust.
“Because you look adorable in those pink balloon boxers I gave you for Valentine’s day.” Brendon explains loudly, very, very, very loudly.
Shane can feel his ears heat up as some of the mothers turn around and glare at them while shoving their children away.
“Look Bren they have a giant elephant poster.” Shane tries to point with all this stuff in his arms.
“Oh that would look so cool in the living room!” Brendon squeals before running off.
Wonderful now he has to deal with elephants in the living room and the bedroom.
Shane sighs as he sits down on a bench which is surprisingly empty but then again the people there might have moved after hearing Brendon yell out why he got Shane for Valentines Day. He should feel embarrassed but now he has somewhere to sit he’s defiantly not going to complain. As soon as he shifts the huge pile of elephants off his lap and next to him onto the bench Brendon is suddenly sitting on top of him pouting.
“What happened?” Shane asks immediately feeling protective of his boyfriend.
“They ran out of the posters.” He sighed sadly looking up at Shane with sad puppy dog eyes.
“Oh,” Shane sighs relaxing. “What do you want me to do about it?”
“I want a present.” Brendon grins mischievously.
“Really now what kind?” he asks leaning in just a bit.
“I don’t know but I would like it to be nice.”
Shane smiles softly before kissing his boyfriend smirking against his lips as Brendon wraps an arm around his neck pulling them closer together. Shane could give a fuck about the hushed whispers he hears from the mothers and how they should get a room, he really is only a few seconds away from pulling away from those perfect lips and telling them only if they would pay for one. That would make their huge mouths close real fast.
“Shane I think their staring at us.” Brendon mumbles leaning his forehead on his boyfriends as soon as they pull away.
“And as if I ever cared about them before?”
Brendon sighs overdramatically rolling his eyes crawling off Shane’s lap much to his disappointment.
“Your such a whiner.” He smirks before kissing his boyfriends lips lightly.
“I still get what I want,” Shane grins standing up and tightly grabbing Brendon’s hand. “Now show me how you can care about these freaky things so much.”
“You don’t get it because you don’t speak elephant Shane.” Brendon starts before getting into detail of how important elephants really are.

As Shane pulls out of the zoo parking lot he’s speaking a mile a minute as Brendon crosses his arms over his chest glaring regretting ever teaching Shane the way of the elephant. After all they were Brendon’s favorite first.
“Oh and by the way I got you a little something,” Shane smirks. “It’s in the red bag at your feet.”
Brendon bends down and opens the bag slightly before breaking out in a face splitting grin.
“The pink one’s mine and the blue one’s yours.”
Brendon takes the two small stuffed elephants out and cuddles them close to his chest immediately taking it back. Sharing with Shane is never bad once in a while especially if it involves presents for him.
