Creamer Disaster

Apr 07, 2009 10:18

I smell like Hazelnut Creamer (sugar free). This morning I took it out of the fridge to shake it up to pour in my freshly french-pressed mug of coffee, and when I went to shake it, it exploded all over the counter, all over me, all over the floor, all over the microwave, all over the oven. It got down my shirt, in my hair, on my arms. This is about 2 minutes before we have to leave for work. I left the kitchen sticky, and myself smelling like creamer. At least my shirt's white so you can't really tell.

In other news, yesterday we had to board our kits because our landlord was going to come by to make sure they're gone (we're not allowed to have them, which is why we're moving in June). Adam cleaned the house to make it look like we never had kitties. I got so depressed yesterday. The landlord didn't even end up coming, so they spent the night at the vet (on the plus side: they got their death claws trimmed so they won't knead my belly into a raw mush at night). It was like we never had them. I cried like three times: once watching star trek (they usually sleep on the back of the couch), once brushing my teeth (they usually sit on the counter and play with the sink water), and in bed (where Xiao is my cuddle bug). I hate it! It's like not being without your children. I just love them. I told Adam we better not ever have kids because I'll be a wreck. I don't know why I cried. I know they're safe, but I feel bad that we weren't with them, even though we've left them for a weekend before. Anyway, Adam called the landlord and she's coming by today at 1:15, then hopefully it will be smooth sailing until June. Mom's gonna watch them for two weeks at the end of May while we're in the Bahamas, so we just have to keep it on the dl for a little over a month.

Today I'm going for a swim from 12 to 1, then I have my photography class after work. We're doing critiques for our portrait photography assignment (I'm not getting critiqued until Thursday). I do not like the critiques. It's basically students trying to find some sort of meaning in the other students' work. Sometimes there isn't meaning! It's a dang photo! Obviously, I never have much to say.

On the last assignment, which was landscape, one student googled "good landscapes", downloaded the jpegs, put them through a projector, projected them upside down on the wall, then took photos of that. ???????? What the heck! I was trying so hard not to roll my eyes. He's like, I think landscape photography is the worst kind of photography. It's so contrived. So I did this. This is not an art class! It's a photography class! What do you think everyone else took photos of? Ugh. I think my photos were the only real landscape photos. Others took pictures of the little circle lane markers in the middle of roads, a close up of a gutter, a car...whatever. I'm interested to see how people interpreted the 'portrait' assignment (for a brief moment I thought about doing portraits of door knobs--I don't have to explain it, they have to figure out my artistic intentions themselves!)

Our next assignment is a portfolio. I don't think that's really the correct word for it--it's more of a project. Adam & I went for a hike on Sunday, it was sooooo beautiful and warm out. We found a sunny rock and sat and discussed. I have to take photos in some sort of a theme, then make up an artist statement that explains the profound meaning behind my photos. I thought it would be nice to take photos of people looking out to sea, as I'm going to san diego with Mindy, Cynth, & Ash later this month, and I live near the ocean. So, after a little bullshitting we decided that people looking out to sea makes you consider your small size in the scope of everything, because we usually like to think we are in control of nature/our environment, but I know when I look at the ocean I feel pretty small. So there! Now I'm a real photographer! I think it should actually be fun, I'm going to try to use more color because it's a color photography class. I'm going to try to do 8 different people: mindy, cynth, ash, adam, heather, anna, me, and mom. Now I just have to talk them all into it/get them by the ocean!

I also have to rent some Chinese movies on Netflix and write a paper about them. It was a 1 unit Chinese Film Seminar class, just over 1 weekend, but I went out drinking with my coworkers instead (WAAAY more fun). Thankfully the teacher e-mailed me the prompts and said it was fine.

Okay, I better get to work.
