entertainment can be tricky. times when i play video games all of the time i start to deaden my worries about what's going on in the world. at times i really crave that escape. music is a big culprit for me also. i start to neglect other areas of life when i'm playing music all of the time, and sometimes i will get obsessed with a particular artist so much that i don't want to play music. not out of feeling inferior or anything, but just because i like the music they make so much. skateboarding is another entertainment outlet that steals my cares. in a sense, i am an entertainment junkie, but i have to ground myself sometimes or else i forget that there is a real world out there.

it's funny, i'm reading "zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" right now. have you ever read that? so far it is really good. to me, zen and buddhism are not religious but philosophical. which is how buddha intended it anyhow. he never claimed to be a spiritual being. i use meditation and things like that to balance things out. i haven't meditated in awhile so maybe that's why i'm so pissed off all of the time:) i understand, though. i tried to run the gammut of religious thought before i came to my epiphany. all different religions have great insights that can enrich your daily life, so finding it to be a recipe is a great analogy.

all religions also have disagreements within their doctrines also. man typically subverts doctrines to meet its needs thereby voiding the meaning, in many cases. For example, the doctrine of "tithing" in Christian thought has been repeatedly subverted to become a "healing" tool and to capitalize the church. This bastardized version of the doctrine causes many people to stray away from Judeo-Christian philosophy/theology. Man is at fault for this; not God. The example I am speaking of is this "Someone out there needs to plant a sacrificial seed of $6000, I can feel it in my spirit." "if you plant the seed you will be healed." What? Capitalizing on the weakness of another for gain in the name of Jesus? It's wrong. The hindus are responsible for similar acts, as are Mormons and other religions. I'm not as steeped in these to cite common examples, but I have read on these topics before. In all of the religions there is usually something pure that has been subverted to meet a monetary or personal desire.

whew, sorry about that.

hey, i'm interested in your spiritual thoughts! i definitely wouldn't mind sitting at the computer with a cup of coffee and a cigarette reading some of Sir Mattachu's religious rhetoric. i might could learn a thing or two (maybe even three).

what game are you getting?

sorry about the ranting, i tend to do that with the politics of religion.

massive love

hehe no worries on the ranting there Sir James, I too enjoy moments of partaking in anothers mental diharreha.

I appreciate how you allocate your energies into describing various other aspects of your life being involved under that umbrella of entertainment, such as music, and skating, but if you ever look at yourself and imagine that these things are what keep you from initiating the "real world" then I would still consider you lucky.

I am SO happy that you and Kelly have skating to do together. I think that, in itself, makes it a worthy endeavor that I wouldn't ever dare pacify by describing as a mere entertainment outlet that may or may not prevent you from allocating energy to more 'important' things. It IS an important thing. It is healthy, for all mind, body and spirit, so long as you truly put yourself into it(which I know you, and when you undertake something you UNDERTAKE it ;) as well as an experence that you can share with your most loved one that intertwines the nurturing of the mind/body/spirit things together and thereby fortifies your relationship as well.

Music, it can be described the same way, esp. since it is another thing that the two of you share. The whole point though that I guess I'm trying to get at is that so long as you keep activities like this in your life, and at a healthy level, the more difficult issues of discovering what you need as a human being from your government or your God will come a little easier.

It's like the painting of your soul; there are broad strokes, fine lines, and everything inbetween. Broad strokes provide a backdrop, things that help define the picture itself, but ultimately are secondary. (job, h

oops, it cut off the rest of my reply, and I don't remember exactly what I said, but I'll summarize in saying -

The painting of ones soul; broad strokes, fine lines, and everything in between. Broad strokes represent the generalizations, What you do for a living, what sort of hobbies you like to partake in, just general things that people do day to day that more than likely aren't immediately involved in the "finer points" like religious or spiritual beliefs, how love plays a role in your life, or similar things that I would describe as the "fine lines". Skating and music between you and Kelly seem like a healthy balance that provide the strokes neither broad, nor fine, but the inbetween. They act as a conduit for the broad activity of what they are, but also a focal point that allow you two to spend healthy, productive time together.

I think people become lost when they focus too much on either the broad or the fine independantly. The cookie cutter New York stock broker conditioned to concern him or herself with money over true personal happiness is one who I would describe as a person too involved in the borad strokes. Similarly, the hippie who lives homeless on a beach in California that lives too easily as a free spirit is caught up in the design of the fine lines. One is hungry for love, and the other is hungry for basic mundane needs. Granted, a utopian society could be the assimilation of either as the whole, but imo, it wouldn't truly be complete until the two met in the middle thereby eliminating the "need" produced by being on one opposite end of the spectrum.

Again, I think you and Kelly do well by finding activities to share, even careers for that matter, and keep each other grounded in the realm of desire. Hence my appreciation of you guys and your concern about the state of our Government and the Church in general. You maintain an honest desire to find better ways for everyone to live, rather than just yourselves. Part of that means having to accept the sorry state of affairs that we as a country are in, but better to fight that fight than find yourself pissed because a stock fell or your new Ferrari just got reposessed.

I Love you guys and look forward to talking to you soon. Stay you.
