All in all today has been a pretty decent day. I can't complain too much, but since this is my journal I will.
B goes to leave for her out of town adventure to Houston tomorrow morning. We will have to get up sooper early to accomodate the travel schedule, but that isn't what bugs me. She will be gone until wednesday night, . . . and that bugs me.
I have already commited to not divulging in the details of our united struggle or bliss, so I will leave that where it is, but I am definitely going to miss her. So much that I already do.
On other sides though, work is going well enough. Danny Boy (A client) managd to rent a fantastic selection of some classic, and newer sci-fi and horror films. What I like about this, is since I too am such an avid fan of the entire genre of Sci-Fi/Horror, it allows us a great opportunity to share the joy of watching peoples heads explode or aliens popping out of stomachs unscathed by what would probably be gasps of horror or unexpecting shrieks from people not so fond. This is another reason why my work allows me an outlet in what may be a difference in cultural appreciation with my significant other, and that's that I can get all of my "Bad" movie watching in at work and not have to force my G/F to sit through yet another version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I don't quite understand myself, why I like campy horror films to begin with. Perhaps it's deep seeded as a psychological issue spawning of mothers warnings against watching something at a time when my brother was allowed to. But I don't buy into that because I would still quite often manage to watch it anyway, regardless of the impending onslaught of nightmares.
Sometimes it's a technical appreciation of special effects (the real effects, not CGI) and trying to figure out exactly how they can make someone look like they are caught in an escelator with thier intestines spilling forth from thier body in a miscus spurting mess. Although I have watched too much discovery and sci-fi channel to maintain any prescise mystery to effects commonly used.
Sometimes it's a social commentary that acts as a hidden joke in the horror movies. Kind of like in Friday the 13th (Pick an episode) where Jason strikes just as the naughty teenagers are doing drugs or partaking in pre-marital sexual affairs. I find that shit hillarious. Am I sick for this?
Either way, I have already planned that if I ever manage to find myself living in a house that would cradle a room to act as an office for me, I would like to decorate it in a fashion that would represent original movie posters from such films as the Excorscist, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Aliens, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, (okay, anything Romero) Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, even if possible, such overlooked classics as Ghoulies, Munchies, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, The Legend of Ricky (Kung-fu, but all gore), Dead Alive, Children of The Corn, Cujo, Slumber Party Massacre, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness (should have just summed up with Bruce Campbell) House, House 2, XTRO, The Kindred, The Omen, Fright Night, Poltergeist, Scanners, Haloween, Childs Play, the Thing, They Live, Jaws, Pirhanna, Pirhanna 2, Creepers, . . . okay the list could go on and on, but one gets the idea. Perhaps movies like these are not much more than machines to keep people scared for completly fictional horrors, but imo, they remind me as I watch them that they aren't half as scary as some things in real life.
Like our President.
(shudder) now thats scary.
