Last night I ended up racing to Ace, picking up the bike (from the nice older guy, didn't say anything about the stupid younger guy messing up, in retrospect I should have), and then walking both bikes the mile to Paramount to catch Tyler before he left for the night. My shin has some new bruises from the bike pedals, but I wasn't going to chance my balance riding one and pushing the other. Tyler was able to find my bike's replacement crank in the catalogue, not too expensive after all. He taped up the rims and the hubs that he'll rebuild my wheels from and gave me a fair copy of the estimate. I carefully folded that up and put it in my purse. Then locked up the broken bike outside the restaurant next door and biked home on the mountain bike, just beating
cris. He made a quick dinner (mmm, sea bass) and then it was back out again for me with the car to get the broken bike home. Of course it wouldn't be a drive in Boston without a close call: two blocks from home a guy started to pull out of a parking space to do a u-turn and only saw me at the last second. One more trip to drop the bike off for repairs and I can give up driving the car again for a while. *watches stress levels lower*
Today I've been emailing with the insurance claim agent, our printer/scanner/fax machine here can scan to PDF so I've been copying all the receipts and forms and emailing them to her, much less painful than anticipated. She'll look them over tonight (and was amenable to my requirement on limiting the health disclosures - if I signed it as it was, they could get *all* my medical records. Um, No.). Still waiting on the hospital to get in touch about the charges for the xray, I really hope that they don't bill me and make me sort it out. The bruise is still painful against the back of my chair, and my shoulders/neck are all tense, I'm really craving about an hour in a hot tub.
We watched the first two eps of
Long Way Down this week, thanks to
s0b mentioning that they were airing. As usual, Mr. McGregor shows off his naked body, complete with moving censor block. :) Oh, and the visits to Roman ruins were ace as well. :) Lots of drama on this one, it feels a bit less seat of the pants than "Long Way Round" did, they learned a bit from it, I guess. :) I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with the cameraman, Claudio. He rocked in "LWR", I hope we get to see more of him than just "we brought three forks". It's a bit of an odd conceit, he's almost invisible behind the camera, but you know someone's filming Charley and Ewan. I wonder how often he has to work to not crack up at their antics. :)
Yesterday as I was biking to work, a pigeon was crossing the road along the crosswalk. I was so amused I was laughing the rest of the way to my office.
I also laughed at an email from the guy in charge of the construction downstairs from my office, but that was more of an "oh so little and oh so late" sort of thing. They're going to throw us a pizza party and give us $25 Simon Mall gift certificates "so we can buy ourselves something nice" and gift bags from CVS. This is in compensation for over three months of noise so invasive that I've been posting about it here. Today? They've got cranes running off of engines outside my window, ostensibly putting the sign in place, but the engines have Not Stopped All Day. *twitch*
They're supposed to open on Sunday, and I guess they want to sweeten us up so that we'll be going down there to get our snacks and drinks. We'll see how long my ire holds out when it's pissing down sleet outside.
Oh, lovely, they're installing the bit near my window, loud hammering now. *sigh*
Hopefully tonight I can make it home without getting hit by a car and will be able to follow through with my weekend plans. Hrm, I guess I should call my parents to let them know I got hit before they find out some other route. Though most of my plans have ?'s after them, we'll see what I actually do in the end. :) Hopefully I'll get some crafty things done - I finally ordered magnets to glue to the bottom of the spice cases, and I have some sewing to do (I want to make a few tea cozies, using a kitchen towel is getting a bit old).
Still waiting to hear on
the_axel's plans - oh, if email's been bouncing, try my gmail account ([first initial][last name]).
I finally gave up on my Palm V and ordered a Z22 - I've been having to reset the digitizer every day recently, it's time to retire it. Her's hoping the data transfer goes okay. *crosses everything* I carry my PDA everywhere, it's even survived falling off the back of my bike, so I didn't want to invest more than $100 in a new one. I took the precaution of ordering a protective case at the same time. :)
We also turned on the heat last night. I was shivering pretty badly from riding home for a bit w/o my mitts and balaclava (stopped halfway to don them). We did finally use the fireplace for the first time on Tuesday though, that was nice to look at and hear, but you have to stand close to get the heat.
Still more wood to use up, I foresee turning down the heat again sometime this weekend. :)
