Bush, Podcasting

Sure, marriage is an institution defined as being between a man and a woman and bound up in all sorts of traditions and that sort of garbage.

But what defines it as such? Religion/culture, damnit.

So why the f*** does the government authorize "marriages" anyway? It seems to me they should only deal with "civil unions" between anyone, and leave all the religious overtones to churches, families, etc. Sure, a church is allowed to say that they refuse to marry a gay couple. The government isn't supposed to discriminate. If you have an institution that is self-defining as discriminatory, then ditch the fscking institution...

...*sigh* So I was really excited about podcasts and all, downloaded approximately a million today [I went to apple's headquarters yesterday <3 and at the end of the thing they turned us loose on their company store with employee discounts, so I bought a book on podcasting... I decided this is one of the things that I'm going to spend my summer doing :D], and it was really fun until I decided I needed to find a real news one, so that I could stop being so completely clueless as to what's going on in the world (Yea, I used to read the newspaper... that's simply not been happening since I stepped into the Stanford Bubble). Discovered that there's a weekly presidential radio address. And, of course, the one today is saying that he's apparently trying to start getting this marriage protection amendment passed again, because "marriage should be defined by the people, not the courts." ...?

Woo. At least there's a party at Synergy tonight that I get to go to and hang out with a bunch of crazy hippies. That'll make me feel less under attack for having the opinions I do. >_x I miss California already.
