Some quick movie reviews...
Knocked Up is about a nice Jewish stoner who hooks up with Drunken Shiksa Barbie and, in a moment of inebriated passion, makes my nephew
Hayden a baby. Funnier than it sounds--unless of course, you're the Katherine Heigl character, b/c then you have to worry about your baby daddy turning all the bottles into bongs. Grade: B
The Dark Knight is a love story of a man and his rubberized suit. But it's a damn good one. This has to be the best action/superhero film I've seen in a long, long time. (Although I've yet to see
Iron Man, so that opinion may soon change.) Christian Bale is good as the brooding anti-hero, but Heath Ledger really does (did) steal the show. The choices he made with that character are pretty amazing, and it's a shame we won't get to see more from him. Grade: A-
The Pineapple Express is about a nice Jewish stoner who gets in a bunch of trouble and associates with people he would otherwise never associate with, all because of drugs. Because drugs are bad, m'kay? (But that doesn't mean he's going to stop doing them. This isn't that kind of movie.) Not as funny as I'd hoped, and then there's the whole Seth-Rogan's-Characters-Date-High-School-Girls-thing that I don't even want to go into, but suffice it to say made me want to ack into my outrageously overpriced popcorn... Grade: C
The Departed is one of those retro-cool police thrillers but with an actual plot and a cast that kicks ass--Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo Dicaprio, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg (in a performance that almost makes up for his participation in
The CrHappening). Grade: A-
