Red, Hurt, and a little bit of Seether | 11/26/07

The Seether concert last night was...interesting, to say the least.

Christopher and I went to Sonic on the way there because Sonic is the shit and I indulged in a watermelon slush and onion rings because I wasn't all that hungry but ZOMGITSSONIC!!!11 We continued our hour-long drive till we reached Hilton Head about two hours before the concert started. I wanted to go to the mall, but didn't have directions, so we went and walked on the beach instead. Their beach is about 10,000x better than ours (except it lacks a pavilion, which is strange). It had *real* sand, not sand that was loaded in a truck and deposited there like Savannah's beach. Unfortunately (damn Daylight Saving Time) the sun had already set by the time we had found parking for the beach (turns out "No Beach Parking! You Will Be Towed!" signs are not in effect in late November), so I didn't get any spiffy beach photos.

After we left the beach because my thin-blooded self was beginning to freeze, we went to CVS. For some reason, I have the ability to spend godawful amounts of time in CVSes without getting bored. We analyzed all of their food and I determined cocktail peanuts to be the best purchase. The CVS wasn't that far from the concert venue, but I could tell that Chris didn't have my ability to spend time in CVSes for an hour or more, so we left after a mere 45 minutes.

We got to the venue about half an hour before the doors opened, so we lay in the car for 45 minutes thinking of words for all the letters of the alphabet while eating most of the cocktail peanuts.

Upon entering the concert venue, we had to stand for 45 minutes before any band even came on, which kind of sucked. We were third row for the first band, Red--they were really good. At first the lead singer scared me (he had black paint over his eyes), but I quickly determined the entire band was extremely erotic. I convinced Chris to agree to a massive orgy with us and the four members of Red. There was one that even *looked* like Chris, so it'd be kind of like twincest. or something.

The next band, Hurt, was very dull. The crowd loved them, but I was almost yawning throughout. I got a guitar pick, so that was neat I guess. The most memorable thing about them was that the lead singer played electric violin.

Seether didn't come on till 10:30 and we both had to get up early for school today, so we were planning on leaving at about 11:15, but the crowd was absolutely awful and we ended up only staying through three songs. I had an entire beer spilled on my shoe within thirty seconds of the first song, and someone began smoking marijuana sometime during the second song. We somehow moved from the third row to the fifth, and all I could think about was how if the pothead caught the club on fire we'd all die. I'm fairly positive that whatever fire safety regulations South Carolina has in place were not being followed last night...the show was sold out, but still...there was no room to move at *all* and there were no fans or anything.

Anyway, Seether was cool, not that I got to see any of them because everyone in front of me was six feet tall. They sang Driven Under (one of three songs I know!), which made me happy that I couldn't see the band because I didn't even have to close my eyes to pretend like I was at a Nirvana concert (am I the only person that thinks that song sounds like it should be a Kurt Cobain song?). We left as soon as Driven Under finished (the other two songs we heard were Gasoline and Needles).

All in all, not a bad show. I think that it would've been more enjoyable if we had been wasted, because I'm just not really into 100 degree standing room only crowds with really drunk violent people (four or five guys got kicked out just from our little section). I was also rather pissed off at the middle-aged woman who faked some sort of condition to get front row with her wheelchair which she obviously didn't need...she spent half the show standing up begging for picks and the other half WALKING AROUND TO GO BUY BEER. WTF if you go somewhere with a wheelchair you obviously don't need, don't blow your cover by going to buy alcohol.

chris, concerts
