In other news, my brother's been off at college for about a week now, and I can't say I've noticed much. I know that sounds really cruel, but my brother and I don't interact very much at all, and when we do, we'ere usually squabbling about something petty or insulting each other for fun. I do miss him, and I'm looking forward to the closeness that siblings develop after they finally have separate lives. Hopefully he's off having a great time. His girlfriend goes to the same school. And lives in the same dorm, on the floor above him. And has the same major. And all the same classes. This kind of worries me, because if they ever break up, it's going to be devastating for them both to have to see each other all the time. I don't think they will, though. They consider their prolonged relationship, eventual marriage, engineering careers, and oodles of babies as practically fait accompli. I have to say, I really wouldn't mind-- it'd allow me to enjoy watching my parents enjoy grandchildren while not obligating me, as the eldest, to bear them myself. My parents are likely to be much more understanding about my strenuous pursuit of superfluous education rather than family life if they've got my brother's wedding/kids/etc. to obsess over. Not that they wouldn't be understanding anyway, but still.
