See, I can very much understand you. I share similar feelings on other characters - I see literally nothing in them and wouldn't even know where to start should I ever have to write them. (on the other hand, it can be good to leave one's comfort zone at times like with prompts)
Oh? What is usually the reason for not liking him, then? *curious* Well, I haven't heard many reasons but I can see people not liking him for being too 'proper' or for appearing like such a fanboy of Tousen or even Kensei (just look at that tattoo). Also up until recently he had been quite impassionate and always appeared balanced and calm.
Heh, well, it takes a lot to be as 'interesting' as Mayuri. Which isn't necessarily a compliment. Then again, I also like Byakuya, who is very different from both Mayuri and Zaraki. I suppose Byakuya's difficult personality intrigues me. *stops babbling now* Oh no! please, this is not babbling - this is sharing insight and preferences. And therefore always interesting. :)
I am intrigued by all three guys as well for various reasons - Kenpachi because he can so wonderfully insightful, Byakuya because he is a much more dramatic character than most might believe - there is more to him than just looking impassive and beautiful! ;) and Mayuri... yeah, I like that he never make excuses for his passion for science and that he is consequent within his self-imposed boundaries. To me he is one of the few characters in Belach who truly embody the idea of what I consider a ruthless warrior, actually - no remorse, ready to do what is necessary no matter the immorality of the means and he seeks knowledge. His monologue when faced with Sazyel had turned my opionion about him around completely and since then I listen whenever he says something.
but he's such fun to work with. You make him see harmless! lol I will definitely consider it. :)
