In the last year, I've been really working on my torch skills. I've made a lot, lot, lot of my own headpins and such. Knowing how to operate a torch is also super useful for PMC, to fix little mistakes or fuse on additions ( Read more... )

Awesomeness. I love those moments when you look up and are like "I just did something that is really hard for me. Nine times. And it was easy." Those moments when you're like "I must have leveled up my skill!"

:D

I hadn't had time to say anything, but the labradorite pendants from the last update are so beautiful, and among, if not the best work I've seen from you. You HAVE leveled up. Your stuff is formidably beautiful, and totally professional without being soulless. I pray your love affair with labradorite never, ever ends. Queen Mab is just freakin' magnificent.

Silver is so tricky. A lot of people refuse to work with it. But it's such a lovely metal. This is so cool.

I am entirely prepared to be amazed by what you will do with filigree. I have no doubt you will master the ability to get your hands to create what your mind imagines into the world. I have seen you do it so many times before. Congratulations on the new skill set!

It's been 10 years since I played with a torch, but I'm thinking of getting back to it soon. I'm thinking of setting up a bench at home soon to tinker and see if I want to start doing anything serious with what I learned back then in the short goldsmithing school I went through. I know what you mean about the silver solder. Watching the instructor do things looked totally different than when I would try it. It seemed that the distance you hold the torch from the piece is EXTREMELY sensitive to change, so it's something that just comes with practice. Unfortunately, it can be expensive practice...
