Bookish entry ahoy #1
So it's been a while since I made a bookish entry here. I have a book blog where I blog about books a few times a week so I don't feel the need to talk about books as much anymore, but I figured a bit of an update would be nice since we are nearing the 3 month mark into this year.
At the start of the year I challenged myself to read 120 books. But with being pregnant and being very distracted from reading I noticed very quickly that I wasn't going to get to that. So I moved it down to 90 books. I'm still 5 books behind though. This sucks because I do want to read more. I feel like I read so little at the moment. And it is hard choosing books. But now there is no more work to swallow up my time I think I can read a bit more. So I have read about 15 books so far this year.
One of my favorite books I read this year so far was Paaz by Myrthe van der Meer, a Dutch author. It's a psychiatric fiction book so it is very different than what I usually read (fantasy), but it was also very relatable. It was heavy, but also funny. It was a good book. Only 5 star book so far this year.
Another book I loved was The Kingdom, the second book of The Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens. I loved the idea of the first book but wasn't impressed by the execution. But I loved this second book and I'm glad I've continued with it. It goes more into her background and I loved that. The Graveyard Queen is a paranormal detective with a cemetary restorer as the main character.
One book I did not finish was the third book from The Maze Runner series. After rating the second book 1 star this book was even worse for me. After 100 pages or so I just gave up.
In a week and a half Flamecaster is coming out! It is the first book of The Shattered Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. It is set in the same world as her Seven Realms series that I loved so I am super excited about it. The Demon King (first book of the Seven Realms) is one of my favorite books.
Right now I'm reading The Warrior Heir, another book by this author. This book was released a few years before The Demon King and it is noticable she's grown a lot since then.
What has been your favorite book so far this year? And what book could you absolutely not finish this year so far?
