I had a follow-up with the orthopaedic surgeon today.
He confirmed that the break is misaligned by about 25%, but the difference in outcome between surgery and just letting it hang is about the same. So, I will continue with the sling for the next few weeks, start physio therapy as soon as I can get myself an appointment, add in a new shoulder exercise on my own until then, and go back for another follow up in five weeks. At that time, he may allow me to do light swimming, but I’m probably out for the fall session with my master’s swim club - he says 3-4 months, though I’m not clear on whether that’s from today, from when I broke it, of from my next appointment. I’ll press harder on this next time, and also ask about when I can get back on my horse and resume cycling.
And in truly depressing news, I had to leave the house at 6:30 this morning to make my appointment; my routine was completely messed up and I forgot to apply deodorant. I really hope I have some in my stash of stuff at work.
