So Friday, I had my whole day planned out. School, then 8th period I had to work the Latin Club ice cream table (thanks Mikki, for kindly volunteering me!) Then I had a doctor's appt after school, for which my mom would pick me up in the lobby.
I should have caught on right then. My mom doesn't get out of work for such menial tasks as bringing me to doctors appts. Its up to me to get myself there, i.e. riding the coast bus. Argggh.
So I was all excited to go to the Film Festival that night. And after school, I loitered at my locker for a few minutes, making plans for getting to the film festival, and then Mikki and I headed down to the lobby.
I saw my mom there, with Steph, Amy, and Lisa, as well as my grandma in a ridiculous mink coat, and a black guy in a chauffeur hat holding a sign that read "Happy birthday, Nicole Loring." Hmmm. Suspicious.
So they sang me happy birthday in the lobby, which was a little sketchy because all the ghetto kids looked like they were considering asking us for drugs or guns or something. Or maybe they were gonna kill us, idk.
So anyways, I get outside, and this black guy, Richard, who turned out to be the coolest guy ever, opened the door to a limo parked in the parking lot. All right, I can get used to this.
Inside the limo, there was instructions for a scavenger hunt, as well as a $20. We had two hours to get all the things on the list before we had to get back to the school.
We had to get 16 french fries, D+D napkins, twist ties, coupons, arcade tickets, car honks, etc. It's a good thing I'm goal-oriented...we ended up having half an hour so spare, and so we went to Burger King for milkshakes and Hershey pies. Mmmmmmm.
Oh yeah, one of the things we needed was to have a 16 year old guy sing happy birthday to me. Guess who HAPPENED to be driving by while we were trying to get cars to honk at us? Matt and Jameson, on their way to the gym. It was creepy. So Matt sang me happy birthday. (good thing you turned 16 a few weeks ago! :-P Thanks, Cheesecake!)
After the limo ride was over, Mikki and I went to her house, to burn me a birthday CD, and then go to the film festival. At 6:30, her parents called us down, and we got in their cars to go to the film festival.
"Oh yeah, I forgot my camera in your grandma's car, so we have to stop at your house to pick it up." Mik said. Ha. I should have caught on. Nope.
When we pulled into my driveway, there were about ten cars in my driveway, and my parents and brother were crowded in the front window. "What are all these cars?" I asked. "Do you think it's another surprise party?" Nobody said anything, so I said. "Naw, that can't be."
It was. We walked in, and all my friends were like, "Surprise!" And I was like, Holy crap, I custom ordered my own surprise Sweet 16, and I was still surprised. I'm so dumb.
The party was great. Sonia the Psychic came and read everyone's palms and tarot cards. Apparently we all have eerily similar futures. We watched the Girl Next Door, which is a GREAT movie, despite its sketchiness, and everyone left around 11, except for Matt, who stayed until 11:45. By that time, I was staggering around my house, trying to figure out what I was looking for. I was trying to pack my ski bag, and I don't even think I was speaking English at that time. Sorry about that, you know what I'm like when I'm tired.
So I went to bed at 12:30, and got up at 5 for ski practice. It was worth it. The best Sweet 16 ever! w00t w00t! Thanks alot everyone! Oh, and Todd, I hope you didn't hurt yourself too badly doing a FLIP into my hot tub.
