Women's EURO 2013: It Has Ended

Briefly OranjeGermany won it AGAIN. My predictions were worth nothing AGAIN. Norway had won against Germany in their group game, but Germany's young team had improved on their form and were clearly the stronger in the rematch.

A bit of consolation for Holland there. They didn't make it out of the group stage, but managed a nil all draw against the eventual champions. (Holland played well, as long as they weren't anywhere near the goal. *sigh*)

England also went out disappointingly early, but like Holland, didn't deserve to progress further.

I also liked the look of France, which should've made me realise they were doomed, but after their somewhat horrible quarter-final against Denmark, I wasn't too sad to see them go out on penalties.

Overall, Euro 2013 was great to watch. The start of a tournament is often stodgy as teams eye each other up, not wanting to lose the psychologically important first game. The final is often a waiting game as well. That was not the case here, there was full movement and energy from start to finish.

Now it's another four years until the next one, but with 16 teams instead of 12. There's no host yet, but the Netherlands is one of the seven countries interested in bidding. It would be nice if I could do my shouting in person instead of at the telly.
