Strange Sandwiches, Redux

Jun 09, 2011 11:22

Instead of the usual appelstroop, Wingnut's mum brought me a new product from the Netherlands to try: speculoos pasta = speculaas spread. As in, spreadable speculaas. Because it wasn't enough that Dutch people put actual speculaas biscuits on their sandwiches. [Edit: furrfu says I can actually blame the Flemish. Done!]

So, the Original Speculoos Pasta (crunchy) Review:

Appearance: It looks like peanut butter. 9/10

Taste: It does not taste like peanut butter. My tastebuds expected peanut butter, they did not get it. Confusion. It tastes like speculaas, rather sweeter, not so cinnamony. I approve of the little crunchy bits, they really add to the experience. 7/10

Spreadability: Not very. It might be easier with the smooth variety, but I'm not ready to sacrifice the little crunchy bits. 4/10

Final rating: 7/10
A nice change from everyday spreads but shouldn't be eaten every day.
