A chakra in the palm of your hand

I promised to write more about secondary chakras, and so I was thinking...what is the most commonly misunderstood secondary chakra? It's in the palm of your hand.

What most people don't understand about palm chakra is that it is connected every one of the main 7. Often we learn to use our hands in concert with only one other: Typically, it is the 4th, or Heart chakra. However, the palms can also be part of our security system (3rd) as well as a communication device (5th). Unless we balance all three of these central chakras with the hands, we will find ourselves injured or disabled in the arms or hands.

Most people can get through life with those three chakras balanced and working fine. For Tantra to be effective, one must open their palm chakras up to the energies of all of the main chakras.

Look at their location: 50% of the way between our crown and our base. Useful for everything that cannot be done in the Animal kingdom: your dog or cat might envy your thumbs when its time to open cans or doors. Our nearest evolutionary relatives also use their hands and arms for fighting, loving, and communicating. But they do not do art, and they do not farm or cook, they do not keep pets or livestock.

When you reach beyond those 3 chakras, if you are like most, you will find creativity from the higher chakras to use your hands as an outlet. Musical instruments, paint brushes, forming clay for sculpture all require a flow of energy from within to the outside. And channeling lower chakra energy finds us gardening, cooking, and often masturbating...ourselves or an intimate friend. Sexually, we can do things to others that we could never do for ourselves.

So have you caught on to the palm chakras yet? About 75% of what they do is output. But what about input? Some people say that the palm chakras are one-way, that you have one that is for 'giving' and one that is for 'receiving.' That's like saying you have one eye for giving or one ear for giving. Nope, sorry. They both do both; but you get it in stereo!

When you pet a cat, touch a lover's skin, or pull an earthworm from the dirt, you are feeling sensations of energy coming through your palm chakras. The nerve endings involved in input on our fingertips give us some of the most sensitive skin surfaces we have. If you quiet the mind, and your own chakras are in working order, you can actually pick up the 'flavor' of energy through these chakras; that is to say, you can tell if it is energy that increases or energy that decreases, if it is building or destroying, giving or removing. This is important information to have if one is to change one's environment for benefit.

Input or output, palm chakras are the elephant's trunk of our aura. When people hold things tightly in their palm, they are protecting that item; we typically don't hold trash like that! When we make a fist to strike someone, the palm chakras are sheilded, not vulnerable. Approaching with open hands is the universal sign of harmlessness. Defending one's boundaries with an open outstretched palm that says "Stop!" is also fairly universal. When we give up on question with a shrug, our open palms go to the sky, tossing the energy back into the environment.

A great palm chakra energy building exercise is to put your fingertips together, and then bounce them off of one another for a few minutes. The kinetic energy build up between your hands will be the hottest where your palm chakras are absorbing it, usually right behind the ridge where your knuckles attach your fingers. You can do a lot with this energy; it's a very crude, 'stone tool' version of Reiki. It won't ever do true harm.

Absorb all you can with your palm chakras, and you will find that more fun things present themselves for your palm chakras to do. So get out there and touch your world!
