I did a thing!

So the wind had killed our gate and a portion of our fencing as well so I got my uncle to come out and help me get all the stuff I would need to replace it all. Saturday morning he helps me get a couple of the poles set in the concrete but then has to run since he was in charge of all three of his kids at the time and naptime was soon. He says if I want to he can come out again next weekend but I should be able to get the stuff done by myself.

I figured maybe I’d wait a week until I go out to check that the poles were still setting fine in the wet cement only to find two of the neighborhood kids in my backyard, one of them is swinging on the pole that is still setting in wet cement. So I ask them to leave (I keep my temper in check and don’t yell at them, I’m quite proud!) and do my best to get the poles they messed with sturdy and decide that I’m going to have to do this myself since kids in the neighborhood don’t understand the concept of personal property (In Tom’s neighborhood, backyard enters you)

So I go out into the yard around 830 on Sunday morning and get started with figuring out what I’m doing. I had pre-fab fence sections and a hand saw, so getting those to fit wasn’t a problem; however there were no pre-fab gates so I had to make one from scratch all by myself. I’m quite proud to say that I was able to construct a gate AND get it mounted with very little in the ways of problems (I tried to eyeball the length of wood I needed for one part and didn’t math at it and so it was too short, I then busted out my geometry and got it right the second time). I did have on snafu when I went to put on the second part of pre-fab fence; due to the way I attached the first part of it the gate closed but I didn’t re-check when I did the other side and the gate didn’t fit but that was nothing a half hour with the hand saw didn’t fix.

So I constructed a gate from scratch and fixed the fence bits and then I mowed the lawn which is now mostly dead (as I sprayed weed killer on it twice and really my yard is all weeds) and it was 330 when it was all said and done. Also according to my Pokewalker that was ~12400 steps =p
